69189, Questions on the Retro-Fit LSD Posted by extreme97nt, Feb-24-04 09:55 AM
OK, I was talking to remy about lsd's and he said he spoke with a dsm tuner and he told him that the insert type lsd's are only good up to 350hp. Is this true? What kind of power can or has the retro-fit been known to handle? Also remey would like to know if ert makes the retro fit for the 4g63 trans.

ill have to check the power rating on the retrofit. and im 99.9% sure we can do one on a 4g63 diff. every lsd diff is custom made. they can make them on almost anything, all we need is a diff to use. any questions send to sales@exileracing.com Chris

The Retrofit is not a spring loaded insert like a phantom grip. Read the write up by Carlton on the main page, to see why it's sooo much better than a Phantom Grip.
They are custom built to each diff and the friction material on the top of the "insert" will hold much greater power and will not leave metal shavings from metal on metal contact inside your trans.
We would need a 4G63 trans differential to look at and work with. I don't know the dimensions between the spider gears, idler shaft diameter to know how it compaires to the kit uised on the NV-T350 kit. We'd need one to get it to work.

I've asked this in another LSD thread before, but why can't I just receive the Diff from you guys and have my shop toss it in? My eclipse is my DD right now and 1-2 weeks of ridin the bus would be difficult!!!

Basically the retro unit carl put together for us is good for anyone that is looking for a great improvement from stock traction and up to the 350hp level or around there... for a lot better price than buying a whole new unit... If you have the money to make over 350whp, then you've got the $$ for a quaife most likely...

What is the wear typically on the unit? I'm looking at ~350hp, so it's still a possibility I'm guessing for my application, but what kind of life would I be looking at? I mean, if it's something that would require costly maintenance, might as well go with Quaife...

Good point. I plan on making my car full race/show once I graduate from college. I will probably see over 350hp Would it be worth to go with the Quaife? Either way it looks like I will have to wait until the end of march.

Hahn is using a Quaife. Dino is running the Retrofit, and to my knowledge hasn't overpowered it.
Your shop can't install it, because they don't know how. It's not a slip in sprung unit like the Phantom Grip. There are special tools required for proper installation, and there are other mods done to the diff while it's apart for improved oiling of the spider gears. It's a custom install to each differential. Which I believe I covered in an e-mail back to you.
We've spent lots of time with Carlton covering the whole process, and all the minor details needed to make sure the installs are done correctly.

If you want added security and never want to mess with it again for sure, Quaife own's you for sure. If you want better than stock performance by modifying the stock component, Carl's unit is king, and if you want the most chances of having more interntal issues in the future, get a PG, :P

I know I've asked this before, but I know I've also asked about a dozen other questions at the same time and regardless, I don't remember the answer. :P I figure this is a good place to re-ask it.
Is there any difference between the diff in the auto vs manual? I have an auto diff already out of the box, and I'm planning on sending it in to you guys here later this spring to have this thing installed so I can just drop the old one out and put the new one back in here (minimizing downtime). Is this a pipe dream, or possibility?
I could snap some pics later this week and post them for you to examine online if you wanted to compare. :) Let me know...

They are not the same diff. Internally they use the same spiders and output gears, but the carier is completely different. An auto diff will not work in a manual trans, and a manual diff will not work in an auto trans.

The auto diff is very different the output gears actually are slightly different the splines are longer on the A604 output gears,m but the teeth and rest of the gear is identicle.
I have secured a couple of NV-T350 diffs for the group buy and can do a core charge, for returning your diff after the Retrofit unit is in your trans.
