I just picked up my shortblock from VT the other day. But I dont know where to put it. So I put it out in the garage (no heat, door stays open). Is it ok to leave it in the cold (still snowing here)? Or would it be better to keep it inside?

it should be fine as long as you don't leave it there for years and years, and keep it dry. I don't know about you, but my car doesn't stay in a climate controled enviroment when I'm not driving it...and it gets pretty darn cold here in MI sometimes. :P

if there's a chance for snow to blow on it I would just through a tarp over it or something.

ok. i know things expand and get smaller (cant think of the word im lookin for, contrast?), but wasnt sure if something like a engine would get affected (or is it effected?).

but I got to thinking...if it's just he block...with no head or oil pan...I would be concerened about moister in the air getting to the sleeves and bearings and stuff. Are the internals exposed? I don't know what I would do then...at the very least I'd keep it sprayed good with wd-40 or something. :shrug

Don't leave it with a blanket, put it in something waterproof. A thick trash bag would work. It's your new engine protect it.

It will rust in less than a week unless you hose the thing down with WD40.

I usually empty about half a can, then wrap the thing in a trashbag.

when I took mine out last year and was waiting on parts to arrive, I sprayed the entire thing down w/ wd40 and white lithium grease. I mean I enriched the whole thing too man. The engine will burn up the lithium grease when it runs, plus its a good idea to use lithium when you rebuild anyways, just so you dont make any metal contact points. I'd just do what everyone is sayin, hose her down and trash bag it. haha sounds like some messed up condom instructions.. anyways I cant really think of anything you can hurt by just hosing the block down, if all your sensors are out of your block you have nothing to worry about, I wouldnt spray in the sensors though if they are there, you may be able to fuck somethin up then. Note I did what I'm telling you and I had my engine outside for a month. then rebuilt it in my mom's pantry haha.. she wasnt happy but oh well. g'luck

The Dawg couldn't have put it better I left my 2L outside for 2 nights and oxidation was pretty immediate, they need to be contained like your girls pussy or that thing will crust up...

...but I shot it with a good can of WD-40 and *went crazy* then I wrapped it in 3 bags and left it on my work bench until I gave it some attention
