OK I cannot get my hands on the quaife LSD until the end of march early april. Is it worth it? Or should I just get the retro fit. I have done lots of reading on both and I cannot decide. Is quaife really worth the extra $800. I just want to do it right the first time. Will the limitations of our car be able to break the retro?

Whats different about the Quaife?

A Quaife is a true LSD (complete unit, clutch type). I never heard of anyone disappointed with it, and that it makes your car feel completely different.

The retrofit is a clutch type locking diff, NOT a hokey phantom grip. The quaife is a torque biasing diff. Both are great units read read read :)

I did read alot about both. I am not sure if I should wait and spend the extra cash for the quaife. Just wanted opinions on both.

No it is not. it is an automatic torque biasing diff, no clutches involved.

For the money, you cannot beat the RetroFit. It's nice and aggressive without being too much like a spool, and combined with the oiling improvements made to the unit, it will certainly take much more abuse than a stock diff. I doubt you'll ever break a RetroFit diff.

Contact ERT. They're a distributor for RetroFit.

I helped test and spec out the initial RetroFit prototype. I made suggestions that helped create a better production diff. Here isd an article written by the creator.

Because the quaife is $1100. This one is about $450. The RetroFit is the only thing i can recommend in good conscience as a limited slip solution for the T350 transaxle when a quaife is unavailable or not affordable. The quaife is the best, hands down, but that's a hell of a pricetag.

Is it really complex enough that you'd have to send the diff off to have it done? I just saw it last week on Horsepower TV I think... They just popped open the rear end on their Nova... threw some parts in and that was that... I guess its a lot more difficult with wrong wheel drive??

There is machine work involved that requires precision you can't reproduce in your garage. it isn't so much a matter of difficulty, it's just easier to have them do it than do it yourself and potentially do it wrong.

Quaife guarantee is aweful nice to have in the back of your mind... just plantin' the seed ;-)

I worked with Carl for seemed like years before the retrofit was "finished", glad to see he got the kinks worked out.

I guess my only question is which one will provide "better" hook up at the track?? I really don't care about cornering and all that, since i'm not going to road race/autocross or anything..
