6852, Question on Silicon Hoses on BOV
Posted by grneclipse, Nov-10-01 01:53 PM
Since my car was down getting some work done to it, I decided to swap out all the ugly black vacuum lines with some blue silicon hose. Now my question is this, Does it matter if the actual inner diameter of the hose is smaller than the a larger one (previous vacuum line). Cause I mean the hole on the silicon hose is 2 times smaller than the original one but I just greased the nipple and pushed hard and it popped on. Would this affect it in any way? I did this to most of my vacuum lines, the silicon hoses I bought were just a little bit too small, but with some spit and pressure they all fit. Let me know guys TIA

Its not a big deal if it is a signal hose (like BOV). There's just a pressure pulse traveling down the line. The pulse might even travel faster in a smaller line (less air to pressurize). If it were a line that was actually flowing air through it (line to a bleeder valve on a FPR), then the diameter might be an issue. If you bought the closest diameter you could to the stock size, then don't worry. The worst thing you could do is get hose thats too big and leaks.

Like said..I wouldn't worry bout it, just make sure that the wall of the hose is thick enuff cuz if you get that cheap hoses, the ones that have a thin wall they will collapse under vaccumm
