Okay well... Long story short I just got OWNED HARD by a CHP officer, so now I'm on a mission to make my car a sleeper.
What I'm wondering is... How should I deal with the exhaust system? Right now I have 2.5" pipe all the way back to an ebay'ed ricemuffler. (no cat, just a test pipe) Sounds nice, just doesnt have a fancy name... Yaknow... But its very big, and screams "modified car!" Which I really can't have.
What I was thinking about is ... Some way of just hanging a stock muffler there, little 1" ugly pipe poking out or whatever a stock RS exhaust looks like... and leaving my exhaust as is... Maybe with the muffler moved back behind the stock'er?
What should I do? I want the car to sound good, I know how to keep it quiet enough so I dont attract cops... I just have to make it APPEAR stock.

stock GST muffler and an eletrically controlled cutout before the cat?

all of the electric cutouts i've seen have been on muscle cars, they look kind of like a throttle body that opens up pointing almost directly down... if you got fancy you could make another short pipe that almost exits from under the car to the side, but that would probably present ground clearance issues.

Yeah I know exactly what you're talking about... have the bookmark somewhere... Kind of pricey though, need money for paint and welding. I'd probably just go with one thats Y'ed off and I just unbolt it when I need power/giant flame like in 2f2f :D
... OR the kind that has a little handle/valve that switches between open and closed... seen those on ebay I think...
The GST mufflers are fairly nice sounding/free flowing?

Doode, for the full sleeper/performance value, I am buying the rsr ex-mag. Its 2.75 in, quiet, and still performs well. It also comes with documents saying it is legal.

"RSR exhaust systems are very well known for producing good horsepower without being noisy. You will be surprised by the great sound and quieter exhaust note. These features make it the best street legal exhaust available for the Eclipse."
-------jezreel hrc stage 1, sfmu, ml, prokits, egt, boost gauge, apexi tt, haydans tranny cooler, costum dp, dynotune fp gauge. gst muff, turbo spoiler

ugh $560
maybe I'll do that later... march or so... Thing is, I'm only doing all this so I can drive the car! This cop in particular swore to me that if he saw my car on the road in its current condition... he'd bust me. (send me to state ref... that will cost 1000's)

Buy a universal 2.5" offset inlet single or dual outlet. with no longer than a 14" body and get that welded up. You can put whatever tips you like or run some standard pipe out the back, maybe polish it up a little. That will give a stock aoppearance. With dual chrome tips you'll look like any garden variety GS-T on the road.

How do you go about locating a GS-T muffler? I know its going to cost a lot to buy new... But on the other hand it would save me a lot of time and effort..

GS-T mufflers can be had on DSMTrader.com, eBay, or any other dsm tuner website. I got mine from DSMtuners.com for sale forum. You might even be able to find one here if you're lucky.
But be warned, the GS-T muffler is MUCH quieter than a cat-back exhaust system imo. I previously had a large ricer muffler and it was probaly 5x louder, but also better sounding. The GS-T muffler almost seemed silent after gettubg used to the louder ricer muffler. I have stock piping though, so maybe it would sound different. Still sounds mean on cold nights with the intake though and is better than stock.

Yeah I'm not sure what to expect as far as sound goes...I'll have to actually use my tach now. Not just rely on sound.. heh.

I recommend an aftermarket muffler withyour 2.5" piping, otherwise you'll have to enlarge the opening or reduce the 2.5" piping to 2". aftermarket is just easier.

shop is telling me I should go with the GS-T muffler, and get a qtec...
I'm not sure what it would sound like though... One time my downpipe fell off and it didn't sound very pretty
maybe if I totally gut the GST muffler?
