I pulled my spark plugs and 2 of them are pitch black with the smell of fuel. The other two are the same except for a patch of white in the middle of the spark plug. New bosch platinum 4's, and new bosch spark plug wires. Would a faulty ignition coil cause 2 cylinder to not fire at all causing the 2 spark plugs to be covered in excess fuel? If I replaced the ignition coil, can I still use the spark plugs?

Im hoping that I didnt blow my motor and trying to fix the crappy way the car's been running without a complete motor rebuild.

hey you know what, my dad HAD bosch platinum plugs in his 00 stratus and he started experiencing some bad idling and then he took it to a shop to see what the problem was and they said it was his platinum plugs. they said that the platinum plugs work well for the first 2000 miles or so but then they start to foul and get really shitty. i have bosch platinum fours in my car and my car is starting to act a little funny. i'm thinking about going and getting some copper NGK plugs. i think before you do anything else you should try replacing your spark plugs with the recommended oem plugs and see what happens.

usually black means youre running rich....specially if they smell like fuel...was your car running like crap? were the other two really clean (white)? you said they were white...well if they are clean looking....it could be a headgasket leaking coolant which cleans your spark plug....id say if your car wasnt sputtering....maybe check your compression, if its good...get some new plugs....if the plugs 1 & 4 were black, and 2&3 were white (or vise versa), then it could be something with your ignition coil.... you can get an ohm meter and check your coil if you think it could be that also....lots of stuff to check out

1 and 2 were black, 3 and 4 sort of black except for a small spec of white in the center. Headgasket leak? I just replaced the headgasket though. I was running like crap, high idle at start, but probably because its cold, hesitation during acceleration

hmmm...if 2,3 were different than 1,4 id say check your coil... 1&4 spark at the same time and 2&3 also spark at the same time...thats why if those two are bad, it seems like it could be something like that.... check that, check compression and go from there
