This isnt the sound of the PS pump or belt. with the car off even, i can turn the steering wheel, and hear a screeching sound....like when something is dry or not properly lubed. The axles were just replaced with new units, and it was doing this before we replaced them. could it be the steering knuckle gone dry or something? Any ideas are welcome.

ball joint recall

ball joints, but you may have to buy them. i had the recall done back when i got the car, had around 83,000 miles then. i have 127,000 miles now and had to replace mine because they were screeching. of course this only started like a few weeks ago. so if ball joint recall not done, you should eb set, otherwise, your outt about 500 bucks.

I would also check the dynamic damper(or dampener) don't remember which one it was called. It is on the driver side axle, and when I was turning it was rubbing on part of the linkage.

sir, I had a terrible screeching noise come from front driver side. It was a high pitched metallic sound. It was not the ball joint recall, but it was that my lower control arms went bad. Basically there are seals in there, that aren't actually seals, by that I mean, you have to replace the whole arm. I had to get both done, and with labor it was like $300.

i had all 4 lower control arms up front replaced. no more screeching now

I havent had the recall done yet. You think they would do it now? im betting that its the lower control arms. Thanks for the info.

its probably the ball joints I had the same EXACT thing with mine and I had the recall done about 3 or 4 weeks ago ur good......

mine is doing this too and i know its the ball joint because firestone told me so. I already had the recall done but all they did was look at the boots and say "yeah its fine". How much does it cost to replace a ball joint 500 sounds like way too much. WTF do they do the recall for if its just gonna break anyway thats such bull shit.

What do i go to the dealer and say....that i need the ball joint recall done on my car? do i need any type of paperwork to take with me? or with all my mods, are they just gonna laugh and point at me? last ?, can i go to a Dodge Dealer....or does it have to be a Mitsu dealer? id MUCH rather go to Dodge.

go to the dealer and ask about the recall, they can check their system to see if it was ever done (possibly before you owned it) if its not done then you can get it done.

a ball joint is not 500, ALL FOUR lower ball joints cost 400 and thats with tax and from someone who works at the dealer. you cant replace just the joint, you have to buy the whole control arm, thats why it cost alot. the straight ones ar leiek 15-25 a piece so not bad, the curved ones are like 160-200 or something insane. it cost me 495, which included all 4 lower ball joints up front (the 4 control arms)and 100 for labor. my parts were bought buy a mechanic who worked at mitsu and who also does work on the side so i got the parts cheaper and for less labor.

ok that ^$^ sounds alot better. I was scared.

everyone get it done NOW if you havent, its a recall it MUST be done, if they give you crap just ask them to call mitsu or chrysler customer service and demand it be done.

Oh and the recall stays open till the parts are REPLACED.

Do it not and dont take any crap, If you have a problem call customer service and tell them your dealership is refusing to perform the recall on your car,

I had the same problem they were inspected and not replaced, well 12 months later they starting creaking really bad, dealership said the recall had already been performed, so I called customer service and told them and they called the dealership and had my appointment set up for the next day. oh and either WATCH them replace it or put a big "X" on the part or spray paint it just to make sure its changed
