I recently did a tranny fluid change on a Ford E-350 and it said the pan gasket in those are reusable. I got to looking at it and it looked a hellofa lot like the oil pan gasket in the 420a (at least the 95 model my brother had) are they reusable? or are they made that way to toy with our minds?:wary

would you like to take a chance and have to redo everything? i wouldn't. replace the gasket.

technically they are supposed to be reusable, but i never reuse any reusable gasket. even though my new oil pan gasket is leaking.

When I installed my turbo kit last year we didn't get to NAPA early enough on that Saturday morning. I had to get my car running by Monday and they're closed Sunday. So I wasn't able to grab my new pan gasket. I reused the old one and it didn't start leaking until recently.

I think it would be ok to use for a while but I would watch it carefully. I didn't even notice my leak until my friends and I were playing around with a SMIC installation on my car to see how it would fit up and I noticed oil caked all around the gasket. After that I noticed a drop or two on the garage floor every now and then.

The oilpan gasket is designed to be reusable. if you properly torque all the bolts in the right order, it should not leak.

RTV is the ish IMO. I've fixed numerous exhaust leaks and vacuum leaks with it. As a matter of fact, I used it last nite as I was finishing the supercharger install on my friends 3000GT SL. ;) Hes gonna be close to 350hp at 1800 rpms. Eaton M62 is nice.

I don't know why you would want to use RTV, because when you have to take the pan off again, it will take you an hour just to clean that crap off. As Dino has said, our oil pan gasket is reusable. I have had my pan off several times on the same gasket, never leaked. It is VERY important to torque the bolts properly, and esp to not overtighten them. Be aware that you do need to use a DAB of RTV right where the oil pump meets the block, if not, then that is one area that can leak...
