67756, What should i do with my N-turbo engine (420A)? I NEED HELP! :-( Posted by titogs95, Feb-03-04 07:40 AM
I have a 95 Gs it has 120000 miles already! So I decide that I have to do something with the engine, because everything else has been replaced. And I want to go fast with out turbo! (It is expensive to GET it, MAINTAIN it and FIX it).
But, I have a little problem that is stopping me to do something!
I have been asking myself what could be the best way to go:
1.- Should I swap a stock 99 420A engine with way less miles on it and the upgrade everything else (like header, cat-back, intake(AEM VG2 and other things). But my concern is that I actually going to have a decent horsepower coming out of that engine??? Will it go so slow!!?????
2.- Should I rebuild the engine?, but right now I may have some problems with the stocks parts; that actually can get more damaged. It might ruin the whole rebuild engine AND will be a waste of money!!! But if I change almost all the important parts, won't be a problem. Right? What might be a least of parts that I should replace?
3.- Should I buy a rebuild engine, with aftermarket parts?? Will I get better performance?(OFCOURSE). But will it work perfectly??? And where I can get a whole rebuild engine for a decent price?
I will appreciate your kindness to help me out with this!
For some guys who think I didn’t research they are wrong. I did it but I always get stock in the same questions as above. I wanted to do this since 3 months!
I am just looking for a great performance coming out of a non-turbo engine.
Also I want to beat the Hondas who make fun of my sick!! Car (Because it is old and need power AGAIN AND ASAP!!!).
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT ABOUT THE BEST WAY TO GO AND WHY YOU SAY THAT!
:)Thanks a lot!!!!:)

by the time you buy headers , v2 , exhaust and all the other nt bolt ons : 1)your gonna be disappointed with the power gains and.... 2)you just spent almost enough to get turbo or nitrous have you considered getting a low mileage motor? or even just rebuilding that one ?

rebuild it imo
It's the age of the insternals that really matters. If you have everything replaced (pistons, rods, rings, gaskets, bearings, etc) you will essentially have a zero mile engine. No worries for at least 100,000 miles if you take care of it.
Just be sure to hang out here every day like the rest of us addicts and you will become more knowledgeable about tuning in general than most "tuners" in your town. I guarantee.
November was one year since I officially registered here and in the coming months, I am going to be applying all that I have learned in the hopes of building the most powerful all motor 420a DSM the world has ever seen. I couldn't do much moer than change the plugs and oil when I registered. You'll see...

Hey guys thanks for post!!
U guys kind of helped me. But still, I fell like I did not have the answer I was looking for!
Try to be on my side, I have like 2500 to spend on the engine right now. But, what I want is to have a decent engine that works better than stock! So, I am guessing I am going to rebuild it. Also, my problem is that I cannot do it by myself because I am short of tools. And I don't own a house to work on it. (So I need to pay a mechanic, SHIT!).
If u guys know somebody around Daytona Beach, Florida! (Can be in Orlando). Let me know so I will move my ass to rebuild this engine.
:):):):):) More post will be welcome!:):):):):):
Thanks a lot!

With that many miles you need to rebuild the engine, and I would recommend putting in turbo friendly parts. JE Pistons and Eagle rods will do a lot to increase longevity.
We are also running our long rod kits on sale right now which gives you the same price as the regular kit. We can also offer you a built short block.

for the $2500 you say you have you should just get a built block from howell or someone else. One thing that is known is that to make lots of power NA is not easy. so don't be looking to be "fast" by just adding headders, exhaust and an intake to your car.
Once you have your built block you will be set to add a turbo or some Nitrus in the future (after you realize that trying to get lots of HP NA is going to be very difficult and fairly expensive).
Now just find someone in your area that will help you with the swap (your old block for the new built one) and you are set to go.
