I have to decide if I should go with the je pistons or the wiescos.I heard from some people that you can here the pistons slap with the je's is this true for wiesco's as well? What I really need to know is what is the max hp the je pistons, wiesco pistons, eagle rods and crower rods can handle?I want to boost between 15psi and 20psi on the star kit.Need to know asap because Im ordering this week.

I have heard both pistons with the eagle rods and to me they both sound about the same. I just bought the JE's and eagle rods b/c I plan on going turbo too. I have heard that the JE's can handle a little more power and the customer support is better on them.I hope this helps in your decision.

je's and weiscos shouldn't be much different at all in power handling if you break a piston by having too much power you wouldn't even have a star kit cause the turbo could cost as much as the kit to produce that much power.
je's have higher tolerences then weiscos so that makes them better. all forged pistons will slap when cold its the nature of the animal.
ealges: to my knowledge noone has broken eagles by sheer power meanign a properly tuned motor and broke the rod because it couldn't handle it..
ive hear dof one case wehre the rod bolt broke that is the closest ive heard of ealges failing.
havent heard of any crowers failing. and they should be able to hold twice the load as eagles.

Moto- no offense, but that whole reply was a crock of shit. Nothing you wrote is true. :rolleyes

Eagle rods I wouldn't want to push a lot past say 400hp. Crower's are damn near bulletproof, been proven in 800+hp applications.
I trust JE's piston composition and engineering more than Wisco's
The manufacturing process and the actual material make up of the piston, go into how much the pistons expands, how much heat it can take.
Motofool, in general power doesn't break parts, incorrect tuning breaks parts. Yes, there are limits where the actual part doesn't have the strenth to take the abuse, and how many people here are running that level of power? But you can blow up a forged piston at 5 psi, if you tune like a drunk monkey. Just go run around real lean, and run some obscene exhaust temps, start melting stuff.

i have wisecos and eagle rods, the only PITA was modifying my wrist pin, but it all worked out better than i could have imagined. i'd go JE/crower if you were really serious about 400+ _________ 96 talon esi-t san clemente, ca

ive only heard that basicaly eagle and crower can handle about the same power, just that crower can take more abuse longer. also you would have to look to see what kind of material they are made out of as when the rods are moving they actually stretch so one may stretch more than the other. course this all depends on material used and design of rod such as H-beam, A-beam, X-beam, I-beam. however, i dont know that many on here would be push enough power to break a rod (assuming the car was tuned well). Im personally getting Crower rods but, thats my own preference

I run JE & eagle personaly. If I remember correctly even eagle says 600 HP on their rods. I think I talked to a guy there one time that said their rods were good well into the 700's. Basicly If you have the money you can pay for the name, but I think the eagle's will hold pretty much anything you can throw at them. I run 19 PSI daily on them with no issues. I also wanted to say that, even with all my troubles with my block and core charge, howell installed these internals really well. I don't get piston slap that is audible and I also don't get any blow by from the total seal rings. I think in the end it's all in your goals, but I don't think many people on this board will ever be at the level where they are breaking eagles (assuming of course the car it tuned properly). If your going to take it to the track every weekend year round or try to launch a career in racing off the car then you may want to pick up the crowers. If you're just a weekend racer then I think the eagles will do ok.

Hey... I personally don't like JE Pistons, just cause of the clearance/tolerance on where the rings sit.
As for Eagle rods, they are beefy and heavy. This is the setup I went for... dunno how it works yet cause not done:
Summit I-Beam Rods Probe Pistons
These are very costly parts... but let's see how the outcome will be.

I do agree that most won't need the added strength. But you are not paying for the name Crower, you're paying for a quality rod. I think Crowers are as strong as say a Pauter rod, and go check their price.

I have a set of Crower's. Damn, they are hella beefy and I agree...they're probably a bit larger than most anyone would need.
They're thick as thigh bones!! (It does give you that added sense of security though) Remember, most OEM mfr's build in about 100% extra sustainability of power. The Crower's should provide at least that to probably 1000HP, I've heard. Very nice pieces.

Yeah the crowers are nice. I don't have any experiance with them, but people who are making a lot of power seem to like them.
Stronger pistons are going to expand more because of the compound they are made of. So the stronger they are the more clearance they need in the cyl and the more they will slap. If your not going to run 26 psi + n2o a good machine shop will be able to keep the slap to a minimum. The clearance JE calls for made my motor slap alllll the time, even hot. Maybe it was the shitty machine shop I had do the work, I don't know. I'm just glad that motor is gone. Get some CP pistons, they make some goood stuff.

CP pistons + Saenz rods = teh win!
;)
honestly, as long as the machine work is good, any combination of the already mentioned parts are gonna take what 98% of people are gonna throw at them (assuming no tuning or other mishap...ie having your mains installed upside down--thanks pure rage  )

(sounding like homer simpson)
Hmmmmmmm....Custom Crower titanium rods (drools all over)
Man it is bad to have a Crower Catalog here....so much good stuff
