Ok i work at a autoparts store and i was looking threw the new magiznes and i saw a Supra With a Clear Timing cover. I thought it was a great Idea. Think about it. Anyone with cam Gears can easly see whats going on with thier timing, you dont have to pull the tiny cover off.If we got this made we could just have them make a slide out top half cover so you dont have to cut the stock one and have to worry about shit gettting in. Even if you dont have it. You can see always how your belt is doing. See if the belt is starting to Tear. See if the water pump is leaking ECT. I think this would be a great idea For us. Only down side is it would get dirty but nothing windex would not clear up. Just make the plastic heat resistence and thats it. I wonder if we could get something like this made for our cars. If we coudl i would so be down. What do you guys think. Thier are probly more benifits too but i cant think of anymore right now

i dunno how good that would be. i guess just for looking at the timing belt, but, you not going to be seeing any water pump leaking from the top of the engine that i know of. then again, ive never had to worry about any of that.

so would cutting off the top half of the t-belt cover to show the gears. bottom is still protected where it's needed the most!

I like mine like it is.. only back side, no front side.. sure it isnt protected, but no problems yet :)

even with just the top cut off shit can still get in. all it takes is a small peice of ruber and i would never just leave it off but i guess it wasnt a good idea then.

I'm not saying it's a smart idea at all, I definately wouldnt recommend it to anyone, but it is very helpful for me, and so I'm keeping it that way until I dont need it there anymore.. If the clear cover was 2 pieces, then it could definately be worth it.. not 2 peices like are front covers are now, I mean 2 pieces, like a top and bottom. Then you could possibly see if the water pump was leaking, b/c you could see the water pump from underneath the car and if it broke off into 2 pieces easily not a pain in the ass like ours is.. try to get it made man, my high school's machine shop makes things out of plastic all the time, I'm sure somethin could be done.. peace... let us know, I'm sure some people would be interested, I know I would be eventually.. Make some money man.

Once i get out of bootcamp and get on base and have some equipment at my fingertips im going to see what i can do.

I just left my timing cover off after a rebuild. I like to see how things are going, and also just didn't feel like putting it back on.

yeah, just take the whole damn thing off and achieve the same effect. the cover is crap anyways and only serves to get in the way of doing any real engine work.

Dude no way am i taking my cover off, All it takes is one thing to get jamed in their and bam you got you self at least 600 dollars worth of labor if you not a machanic. Plus the hassel of ripping the head off and fixing the vales. One time i was racing my friends Golf3 light turned green i launched the car and got more then expected wheel hop, my PS Belt Jumped a groove cuz of all the vibration and in a sec the hole thing shredded all over the place. If i didnt have my cover on can you say OUCH. Thats y im looking into a clear cover with a top half that just slides on the botton half of the front part. So any time you want to change you timing just pull the top half off change it and slide it right back on. I dont know it could be me be paranoid but i would never run my car without the cover.

well, its kind of a moot point since you dont have adj gears and they dont make a clear cover for our car. so unless you wanna shell out big bucks for a custom job, you'll either have to cut the top off, leave the whole thing on and take it all off when ever you need to adjust.
OR...
you could just trust the combined experience of the board members who have done wothout the cover plus all the other countless tuners out there who have done the same thing, all without negative results, and realize that you have a greater chance of getting your dick caught in the gears and belt than you do of haveing some forgien peice of something-or-other fly up into your engine bay past every componant on that side and get caught in your t-belt and destroy it!!!!

I don't have my cover on, I've never heard of anyone getting something caught in their timing belt. And plus I want everone to see my cam gears, they look bad ass. All the plastic cover does is get in the way and it looks like crap. Think of it in a way of weight reduction they weigh like 1 lb.
