i changed my filter about 6 months ago, lately my car has been acting as if it's clogged again. has this happened to anyone (short filter lifespan)? is there another filter of some sort in the fuel system that i haven't changed yet?

What are some syptoms that you are referring to? There is only one fuel filter.

engine runs smoothly if i gradually increase throttle - so there's hardly any load... any decent acceleration results in misfire/hiccup at all rpms. drivable but definitely in limp-mode. i'm almost positive the plugs, wires, and coil are in good shape, and because of the slow smooth revving i'm fairly sure it's not ignition or timing related. guess i'll swap out the filter again this weekend and see if it helps.

Try running some injector cleaner before taking anything apart.
It might save some trouble.
If that doesn't work, then try the filter again.

It sounds like wire/plug problem to me. It sounds like what everybody had/is giong through. I've had the same thing happeneing to me a while back and comes back every now and then. check ignition coil, plug wires, plugs. So if you accelerate slow, the car would slowly go right? And when you floor it, it misfires all the way? or would it run hard after like 4,5k rpm? give more detail.

Oops, I forgot about the flat fuel filter that's attached to the fuel pump. If you've verified that the ignition parts are good, then you might want to check for vacuum leak(s) and/or do a compression test.

eh, not totally true. ever take out the fuel pump? theres that filter on the fuel pump itself.

don't forget plugs/wires/ignition

save yourself the hassle of taking crap aprt on the fuel system and do it right....hook up a fuel system gauge and see what your fuel system pressure is at idle and at load.

then go from there.

low pressure means blockage or bad pump or even bad regulator.

I say get a multimeter and check the coil pack. Unplug the harness to the coil and touch one lead to the center pin, then the other lead to an outer pin. You should get .51-.61 ohms for each pin. Then check the resistance across the towers. 1 and 4(in the back) and 2 and 3(in the front). Should be 11.5-13.5 kilo-ohms. If these numbers aren't correct, you need a coil pack. The MSD replacement is cheaper than stock. Also make sure you check your meter before you start and see that it's accurate.

i'm not sure if the .51-.61 is right. i am having the exact same problem. i thought it was the coil but i have bought 2 new ones and they both read .81 . on my car i replaced the wires, plugs, coil, map sensor, crank sensor, fuel filter(w/gst filter), fuel pump(255), rewired the fuel pump and the block but it's still doing it. i have also ran about 7 bottles of injector cleaner and a bottle or two of HEAT. its still doing it. i don't know what it is but it sucks ass.

i figured it out, at least on my car. it was the wires. seems that one of the cyl. 2/3 wires didn't have enough length inside the boot. so when the boot is pushed in the spark plug well to where the valve cover stops it, it wasn't making contact with the plug. hope this makes sense. if it doesn't, pull all your wires and then put spark plugs into them and make sure they are all the same length. if one is shorter, thats your problem.
