i know that the notches on the cam gears are supposed to line up when the crank is at TDC. the thing is, yesterday i ripped apart my old motor and looked at the timing on it at TDC and the marks on the cam gears lined up, but were on opposite sides. (the outside of the cam gear as opposed to the inside) they didnt meet in the middle in other words. now, the cam gears can be used on a 2.4 and the 2.0, just a different offset, and i just used the old cams from my old motor on my new one, which way do the gears go on? with the 2.0 marking facing you? or the 2.4 markings facing you? the 2.4 side has two marks on either side of the cam gear so that makes sense but it seems the marks on the 2.0 side are on the wrong side. i even left the cam gears attached to the cams when i installed them, with the 2.0 facing me. i didnt change it. i set the timing the exact same way it came off the old motor, with the little notches on the outside of the cam gear instead of the inside. is this right?? i mean it seems odd because i know the marks are supposed to meet in the middle but they werent on my old motor. they were lined up, just on the wrong side. any help much appreciated, TIA

2 crank otation = 1 cam rotation. You are just 180 out of the cams, one more turn of the crank and you are dead on TDC.

Josh what head do you have? I thought that was a typical 2L?

its a 2 liter head but the cam gears are the same (just backwards) as the 2.4. if you were to look at a 2gnt cam gear you'd know what i meant
