when i drive or just revv engine...as i release the throttle and the rpm's decrease there is a very horrible rattling sound coming from the engine, sounds like pieces of sheet metal rattling, i thought it was just at gasket, but that doesnt seem to be the case! help please!

That could be a number of things, anything that vibrates more as RPM's go up. I would think the most obvious would be the exhaust. See if you can narrow down the area it's coming from.

i don't think a gasket will rattle......check the exhaust mani....if it's stock...theres a piece that comes of the side that broke off on mine....made a horrible racket....I just welded it back on and it was perfect....just a guess tho.

i got the HRC manifold, and i went under my car and had someone step on the throttle a bit, and the rattling sounds like its coming right in the area of the manifold but then again it sounds like its coming from the bottom of the motor?? ahhhhh!!

Heatshields on the exuast could be loose?

I had one rattle and also the exhaust tube (that goes from the cat to the intake box on '95 models) was rattleing too.

heatshields rattle. Loose O2 sensors rattle. Lots of things rattle...

If you think it might be exhaust, let the car idle and move the muffler. See if you can reproduce it without reproducing the exact circumstances under which you usually see it. That is the key to finding any problem.

ok, checked exhaust, downpipe, cat..etc, it definitly is not coming from exhaust. the scrambling sound is strongest near manifold (which i have no heatshield for) and sounds internal. let me correct myself, it's more than a rattling sound, its as if having a cup with broken pieces of metal and shaking it...thats the sound im getting! ???

Does it get louder as RPM's go up? If so, it might be a spun bearing.

no it doesnt get louder as rpms go up, the sound is mild to none as rpms go up but its at its loudest as i release the throttle and rpms decrease

probably a heat shield

Mine used to make a rattling sound when I let off the throttle. It ended up being the spring inside my wastegate.

It could be your downpipe wasnt connected properly. this could be giving off a harmonic dampener (sp?) resonance under driving conditions.

well the downpipe seems like its on just fine, but how easily fixable was the spring?? how to check for this? thanks

I had a similar stuation just recently, and it turned out that my motor mount by the firewall was broken apart and rubbing when I accellerated or slowed down. It was actually the mount on the tranny that broke, but the pieces were rubbing together and making a loud grinding /knocking noise. I welded the pieces back together, and made the motor mount solid with a high strength 2 part, semi-rigid plastic composite. Problem was fixed, but now I get a little vibration. Throttle response is much quicker though. I'm a non-turbo. Might not be the same case for you, but I thought I'd bring it up.

that might be whats wrong with mine! I wish that PTuning would get those ES inserts in so they can ship them to me (I ordered them 2-3 weeks ago) so I can install them!!!!
