ok about 2 weeks back, i was drivin my car and nticed a weirder noise...almost as if my exhaust was louder....my engine was runng bad...(bad throttle response) from 1k-4k i noticed a sputter in the tone....but from 4k-5k it seemed very normal...i took it to autozone because i was getting a cel...turn out that there was a misfire in cyl. 4.....so i went ahead and changed all plugs and wires...still, same problem(might have mad it a little better) ....today i thought for some stupid reason it could have been a bad air filter ...went out changed that...still nothing...i need helpppp y car is running horribly!!!!! co0uld it be the fuel filter??? what is it?? i cant be spending all my cash onn things that arent the problem...thanks for your time guys....all helpful responses will be awarded points :-) ....sorry for the long post...thanks again!

did ya try fuel injector cleaner? and are u sure that ur gettin spark to the 4th cyclinder.

All you have left ignition-wise would be coil, maybe cam position sensor, crank postion sensor.

I would hope it's the coil. I dunno. My parents' Neon had sputtering/dieing problems for a while. They had those sensors replaced, but it ended up being wires shorting out on the back of the lack. When they would make a turn in one direction, the wires would touch the block and short out, causing a stall.

Fuel could be the filter, could be the injectors. Filter is cheaper and easier to fix imo. For under $10 you could get a new filter and a bottle of injector cleaner. It's worth a shot. Everything else is going to cost more money.

hmm. are your plugs gapped correctly? are you sure the wires are good? i know you can check your coil to see if its sparking, but im not exactly sure. i know several people from the board who have upgraded their iginition and would have a stock coil laying around. goodluck bro.

prolly injectors....my car ran like poo then I got the injectors professionally cleaned....not from the bottle shit...and I got and axtra 75 miles out of a tank afterwards!!!! waaaay smoother running car.I threw a misfire cel in cyl 4.....same as you......it's either spark or fuel . period.

Call around to some garages. My dad runs his own shop and he has a Snap-On Carbon Clean. You cycle detergant through the whole fuel system w/o the car running...then for 30 min w/ the car running. Amazing. Someone around you has to clean injectors.

How can you run something through the fuel system without it running?

yeah the shop I managed for a buddy did that, but it ain't cheap, when we did it we charged like 175, 75 for the chemicals, and 100 for the labor. but it does work let me tell u much better than any type of fuel additive.

i'm am not sure but I just asked him about it and he said it goes slowly through the fuel system, then you start it and run it for like 30 mins with another detergant + gas

You can check the coil by taking the plug wires off and grounding them w/a screwdriver and have someone crank your engine. If the arc you get is a pale yellow the coil is shot. It should be a blue color if your getting full spark from it. Don't get shocked though it stings a little.

prolly 50-100 bucks...I don't know what shit is worth in the U.S. Just ask what they use to clean injectors or for their fuel system cleaning.

If all electrical systems are taken out if the equation, it'll sputer and misfire for one of tw reasons: Its too rich, or its too lean. Figure out which and then why, and then it's easy to solve.
