Alright well i got a 98 GS, and for some reason i hear you guys run like 250 miles to a tank, but in my car, i'm only runnin like 200... what gives? I only have a cAI but it's always been like that.

Calculate your milage next time you fill up. I usually get close to 25 mi/gal in the city and around 30 on the highway. I fill up around 250 - 300 miles and usually only take 11-12 gallons at most.

if you drive it like a top fuel dragster you will get significantly worse gas milage than if you drive it like a grandma. city and highway driving can change that too. my 1gnt spends 95% of its running life cruising at 70mph on the freeway. that car gets 400 miles to the tank.

yeah 200 miles to tha tank is shitty. Better replace the plugs, wires, and maybe even your coil just to be on the safe side if you got some spare change. I just calculated mine the last time I filled up and got 330+ miles on about 12 gallons. I have been trying to see how low I can run my tank (without tempting fate) but when I fill up just as the fuel light comes on, I can usually only put 12-13 gallons in.

How much would the plugs, and all that cost me?

Well last week i read about how you guys have X amount of miles on your tanks. And after filling mine, i reminded myself to shift under 3000 RPMs everytime, so i did. Maybe with one or two red lines here and but not too much gas being wasted. I guess you could saw i'm a little above granny shifting for this weeks gas, but i'm still gettin crappy mileage. I really hope there's nothing wrong with the internals. Since i haven't had a problem with this car before.

if you have the tools and the know-how, pull your plugs and at least look at them. They should be kind of ash looking with no physical damage or oily deposits. A possible cause for poor economy (assuming your ignition components are in good shape) is a stuck open injector. I have not heard of any DSMers that have had that problem but it is a possibility.

i'll have my friend that's a mechanic check out my plugs, but if those are in decent shape, look at my fuel filter? Any other suggestions?..... Oh does and driving in a more of a residential area i should say (35-40) really matter compared to driving 50-80 everday. I know the highway miles you get more miles to the tank. but i live in NJ and i barely hit the highways. I honestly don't think that's the problem, but hehe it was worth a shot.

plugs could cost you from 4$ to 30$ depending on what kind you get....wires usually cost around 30 to 80$.....should change your fuel filter if those dont help

I have '97 RS nonturbo. I put 89 octane and it runs about 250-300 miles for full tank.
For other reader, my question is... does it really matter what type of fuel one put to his car. What are the pros/cons? Does the brand of the fuel matters too? If those matters, was it proven by a trustly source?

whenever I backfire, I get like 14mpg. But whenever it stops, I get ~30mpg. :P

just last week i drove normally on a full tank without hardly boosting and i went 390 miles.

I do a good mix of city/hwy driving and I almost never get less than 390-400 miles on a tank.

My first car was an 88 Grand Prix. The thing got shit for mileage (like 8mpg) and had no power (couldn't spin 'em on dirt) and it turned out to be a bad coil pack. Make sure your plugs are good and gapped right. I would think if the wires were shot, you'd get the infamous misfire/stuttering that we all get when a plug wire dies. I'm betting either some cheap ass, fouled plugs or a cashed coil pack.

Plugs = $5 for decent ones
Fuel Filter = $5 or so at AutoZone
Wires = $40 at AutoZone (Bosch w/ lifetime warranty)
Coil = $50 or so from ERT. They have a banner at the top of the page.

i get very bad gas mileage but its becuz of how i drive, my car sees redline more than it sees idle, plus im boosted too but only at 5lbs. i get between 17-20mpg im auto too.

Get ur damn injectors cleand. I got like an extra 75 miles outta my tank after that.Very important to gas mileage. I can't believe no one has suggested that yet.....2GNT, clean ur injectors!!!!!!!!!!

during my 6months turboed...i averaged 300 miles per tank...roughly 25mpg...city driving with a lead foot...highway i could easily pull 500 miles...or just a tick over 40mpg....i didn't see much change from when i was non-turbo...freeing up airflow REALLY helps out mileage...oh and having a clean fuel system too..that helps

you think that would really help a lot?, cause i might do that. Doesnt' it cost like 80 bucks to do that too? Anything else guys, you're helping me a lot, this week i'll hopefully be able to change my sparks, wires, maybe my filter or coil, but i wanna check out my injectors. ANd it's weird cause i'm not experiencing any kind of lag, or sluggishness or stalling. Well it's always been like this since i got it from the dealer like last summer. So unless my car is faster than it's supposed to be... i'm a bit worried right now

By clean your injector, you mean the $5 bottle of injector cleaner?

no, like actually taking them somewhere a shop and stuff, and they physically clean them out and shit, not just with the fuel injector cleaner but with a more indepth way.
