I know the purpose of running higher octane gas is to prevent detonation, but is there any other reason to? will a modded (stock compression) N/A 2g get any more hosepower off of higher octane pump gas ("premium gas"). What if I'm running an "upgraded" ignition (1 step hotter NGK plugs, screamin deamon coil, w/ 25ohm 8.5 plug wires).
To put it simple, I don't know exactly what octane gas I should be running.

Octane is simply the ability of a fuel to resist detonation. The only benefit to running a higher octane gas while n/a would be the ability to advance timing, but since that's controlled by the ecu, i thin we'd be sol... unless of course you were running an aftermarket ecu and could adjust your timing as you see fit....

This isn't really advanced. The answer would be no, not on stock compression with a stock rev limiter and stock timing advance.

Ok. Then why do people say run higher octane when running hotter plugs?

When I switched to 91 (from 87) months prior to the turbo installation, I noticed an increase in mileage. As far as hp is concerned, no increase.
