66920, muffler size question Posted by DR1665, Jan-19-04 08:04 AM
I am wondering what would the ideal length of a muffler be for our cars? After you run piping over the rear crossmember or whatever, how long could you go without sticking out more than an inch or so? I am asking because I am thinking about installing a Supertrapp when I run my 2.5" header-back system. They come in a variety of lengths and sizes and offer a more tunable exhaust note for street/strip.
Thanks!

Body legnth has to be 14" or less, or ir will never fit. stock is about 14" length, about 10" wide and 5" high. rough dimensions. Suppertrapps are a round core as I recall. youmay be able to squeeze an inch or two extra if you are angling it. but best to stay under 14".

Thank you sir! I like the idea of leaving the stuff out of the exhaust until I get to the track instead of having it in all the time and vicer versa. Appreciated. :thumbsup

put a resonator before the super trapp or you wish you have!
i run super trapps on all our quads but the cars seem raspy.
Bill modern performance has some nice resonators dr

I've had a 33" long 2.5" cherry bomb in the parents garage for about 6 months now. :P I might trade it for a different length, but I think it should suffice.
Although it would be quieter over all (or would it?), would there be a power loss if I replaced the entire straight pipe from the header to the rear (where the bends start) with glass packs? I'm thinking the perforated cores could slow the velocity of the gasses, but then again, they're insulated, so maybe they would keep the temps up. Hmmm.....

My Vibrant muffler measures about 18" in length, and it fits flush with the rear exhaust cutout. Plus, it's mounted straight back, not at an angle.
