just like my title reads...annyone have bad experiences with total seal rings? which would be your choice of what they offer for the srt-4 piston set... =)...btw did look up came up with a buch of nothings

Came up with nothing on the search? Thats surprising. Seems to me that more people complain about them than giving them praise...but thats just my read on it. Basically - I've seen several people argue that the total seals are good for racing but not for street cars. Try searching in the Turbo forum - you may get more hits for the search. There've been a few good threads about them.

total seals are great if you can get them perfect but 98% of people dont have the tolerences right and they have blow by.

I actually went with Total Seals b/c most people I spoke with who used them, liked them. I don't even know if concers with regard to Total Seals originated here or was a rumor. In any case, it's pretty clear to me that they have a reputable company and at least to some degree, have invested a good deal of research into their product.

I went with them and haven't had any problems. I have zero blow-by.

And Jason's are installed right. You can't just put them on there's a procedure for installing them, and you can do it wrong. I don't think they are bad, but I also don't know that they are worth it.
So, when I build my engine I won't use them. Probably use Hastings or the piston manufacturers rings.

We use the total seals in all our engines. We like them. We burnt the side out of a piston two years ago at the Mopar National in practice on Friday and damaged the block in the process. We worked most of the night and we put in a spare piston with Total Seals in the damaged cylinder. We qualified number one, and won the race. We were only .2's off our best time with the car. That just reinforced my belief in them.

We hear of them buring oil, but then we find out the person didn't disconnect the PCV system. The Total Seals seal so go, that pressures in the crankcase are lower, and the vaccum from the PCV will suck oil out of the engine into the intake track and burn it. When you disconnect the PCV system that oil consumption stops.

when you say disconnect the PCV system, do you do this by removeing the PCV valve and leave the hose from valve cover to intake, or do you get rid of that to and cap the ends?
ive got the toatal seals and they're going in on wednesday(WITH HELP). i read in the instructions about the PCV system, so i guess i better ask and do it right!! thanks

You basically need to allow both valve cover vents to go to atmosphere. Fromwhat Gary saying, if you leave the vacuum of the intake hooked up you will start pulling oil in the intake path and burn it up during combustion.

What about those that are boosted, another boost leak is a bad thing. OR am I understanding you wrong?

The nipples going into the intake track get capped, there will be no boost leak. The two hoses coming out of the valve cover are thes you need to vent to atmosphere. Nothing coming out of the air coming into the engine.

That is exactly what happens. The PCV system is designed to vent the blow by that goes past the rings, by allowing the pressure from the crankcase to vent to the intake tract. Take away that blow by (Total Seals) and that same system with a lack of blowby to vent will suck oil out of the valve cover.

We pull the hoses off the valve cover, and replace them with those small K&N breather filters. We hook nothing to the are intake. We pull all connections to the intake from the oil system.

I love the total seal rings that Gary sent me with the rebuild kit. I get absolutely no blow by and I installed it myself. But now you're telling me I should have disrupted the tube from the valve cover to the intake tract? All this time and I didn't know it.
