Well the engine shakes and moves pretty considerably and so does the radiator. Thats why it is mounted using those rubber grommets. An aluminum pipe wouldnt allow them to move freely from each other. Thats the main reason.

True but with the couplers, how would it be any different than intercooler piping? a FMIC is hard mounted without rubber bushings and the piping is essentialy free-floating, connected only by couplers to one another.

maybe given the proper support, such as polyurethane mounts or even solid ones. Also maybe leave a bit more then average room for the coupling. Ive pondered this myself. There are silicone reinforced hoses available for us.

many cars have aluminum radiator hoses avalable from companys for upgrade

just grab some 3 ply silicone high temp couplers from the industrial fittings store and you'll be good to go.

i'd rather use flexible stainless braided pipe (although expensive) and besides.. the radiator system is much more important (and runs at a higher preasure!!) then the turbo piping.. I definatly wouldn't put solid tubing for the radiator.. not unless the motor was held down tight with solid motor mounts.. that's probably the only way the racers can use those metal pipes.. cause their motors don't move.. not rubber mounted.

You should be able to use a metal pipe, as long as you allow 1-2" of coupling at each end-->allows some flexibility when engine torques. Like the others have mentioned, motor mount inserts will also help with that.

I like the flexible braided, as well.

the motor moves back and forth more then 2"s.. so you need alot more then 2" of silicone coupling at eather end because a 2" section isn't gonna give you 2" of movement. for how short the hose is..it'd have to be almost all soft tubing.. kinda defeating the purpose.

okay them if silicone couplers are not enough then how do you connect intercooler piping the motor still moves?

what about a cold air intake?

i should mention that i will have the prothane full motor mount inserts and not stock or NRG!!

I have, I used 2 45 degree couplers and a titanium tube 4 hose clamps. no problems yet with it.

i can understand it working fine with the above said setup.. being that the main flex points are silicone..

about intercooler piping.. beats me. i could be way off base.. perhaps they use enough couplers and are pretty long to absorbed the movement...

since i'm not going off actually experience you can always ignore me :)

here is a picture of my engine bay with the said mod done on it. the tube is titanium, the couplers are samco 45 degree silicone couplers.

james has some money tied up in an fittings and steel braided line. one from the mani to the bov, nice touch. the other day i saw a pic of a twin turbo'd c5 and he had lines similar to steel braided brake lines(on our car at least) running for all vacuum. those earls fittings almost bankrupted me for the 8 inj setup, i spent a good 250 bucks between all the fittings and my aeromotive. that enginebay is clean buddy, kudo's on not half assing it.

I have the energy suspension inserts... Watched my motor while i was smogging (on a dyno)

It still moves a considerable amount!
