66606, Start car..tries to die..the fine when warm
Posted by REV_GSlow, Jan-15-04 06:43 AM
I have this problem when its pretty cold outside. I start the car, it idles fine for a minute or so, then it starts to bog down..the intake gets really loud like its trying to suck more air, then it will be fine again. What could this be?

Maybe IAT sensor?
I've had the same problem when it's been really cold here in Phoenix a couple mornings. I'm also inclined to think EGR since the purpose is to vent hot exhaust gas into the intake to warm the engine quicker. Perhaps the EGR tube has got a lot of build up in it?

bumpity

Mine does it too early in the morning when it is really cold out. I havent figured it out either. I'm just going with it since the car isnt throwing any codes for the time being. If you figure it out let me know.

I think its EGR, but I have mine blocked off just with a plate at the block under the valve and I still get it when its cold, it pisses me off I go inside after starting it to brush my teeth and it sounds like Im outside rev'n it up.
It might just be the EGR solenoid energizing when its cold.
Ill disconnect the solenoid tomorrow and give it a try.

I have this exact same problem and have had it for a couple of months... havent been able to figure it out. No codes... etc.

Listen to this and see if it sounds the same as yours??

I recorded that a couple of months ago. It idles, then starts to fall, then that sucking noise, then i rev it and it does the same thing almost dying. Once running it is fine though.

We must solve this, lol.

I hope thats it. I havent gotten any EGR codes. I am getting the standard Small Evap Leak code, but i have disconnected the evap system from Vac on the intake mani as suggested in that long ass thread but it didnt make any difference...

Weird huh

let me know.

i am getting something VERY similar to that also...it starts up great, idles normal for 30 seconds or so, then the idle stumbles for like 20 seconds, and then it can idle fine. i figured it was just the cold because my dsm hates running cold.

update: the new egr vavle did not help the idle situation. i was just thinking about it, and with 147xxx miles on the motor is it possible that im getting blowby in the mornings when its cold like that and when the motor heats up the rings expand and everything is normal again?

I am only 6X,XXX miles and it does it on mine. That sux that it wasnt the EGR because that was my next step! dammit.

New plugs and wires here. Also just finished trying to fix my evap leak. by disconnecting the vac lines and plugging them. Cleared the CEL 31 but its already back... bummer. i guess next i will test the IAC and TPS. Oh and I have replaced the stock fuel filter and fuel pump with a walbro so its not that either...

this may be dumb but maybe the air filter?

I thought about that, but it only seems to do it when the car is not warmed up, or having been turned off for a while. I am going to try and fool with the IAC and maybe uhhh, err, i dunno what else. I am stumped. I thought maybe upstream O2 but my A/f functions fine.
