Yes, because even the best parts sometimes have mistakes in them.

I just eyeballed my piston ring gaps when I rebuilt her back in June. 10,000 miles later I do a compression test and see that my 10.5:1 pistons are only producing about stock compression. I can't wait to take all that shit apart again in a couple months and throw some Total Seals in there. :rolleyes
I say check the clearances. If you can't do it, find someone who can. I am living the fuck up lifestyle until I can make this right...

Naw, forget clearnaces along with torque specs man:P
YES YOU NEED TO CHECK CLEARANCES!!!! Thats the only reason why I didn't build my own motor. Because I wasn't 100% clear on how to check clearances.

well, my problem is i have the DSM disc, feeler gauges and all the clearance specs, but im not sure what exactly im im supposed to be checking. I have the crank in with the crank bearings and the bedplate assemb. to the block. oil and H2o pump in place as well. thats where im at so far. what clearances should i check/have checked up to this point?
im getting help with the rings, but i have the rods and pistons put together.
okay, lemme have it. thanks guys tim
