Would you balance Je Pistons and Eagle connecting rods? Or would you trust them to be balanced in the box already?

The rods are balanced to each other, and the pistons are balanced to each other, but they are not balanced to the crank, so you should have them balanced.

Added vibration.

When you balance the rotating assembly it just smoothes the engine out. Taking some stress out of the system.

I do not recommend building your engine and not balancing it.

Increased vibration, which reduces power and engine life. It takes power to vibrate. The power that is making the engine vibrate is not going to the wheels.

Could someone elaborate on this phrase? Do you mean that small weight imbalances in the crank journals could cause normally balanced pistons/rods to throw the rotating assembly out of balance?

I'm not going to search, but I'm certain I've seen it mentioned that the 420a crank is "very well balanced" from the factory.

I'm not disagreeing, but I definitely trust the engineers at Mitsu, JE, and Eagle know more about balancing than the "machinists" :rolleyes in my area.

It's not just the pistons and rods that moves, the crank does too (obvisouly).

The counter weight portions of the crank are roughly balanced to the stock rods and pistons. Putting in forged parts and different material parts, changes the weigh of those products. So a crank balanced to stock parts will not be balanced to a different weight piston rod combo. The weight distribution changes,so you need to balance the assembly.

I would like to add that my 2.4L was never balanced but it certainly had vibrations, with my plans of 8K on the 2.4L I have no choice but to balance so I would say that since the block is apart in the 1st place why not just go ahead and do it, it will certainly help protect your investment.

There is a Moderator who didn't balance his block though

how exactly is everything balanced? just for shit's and giggles... well I do want to know just because that's how my mind works... I NEED TO KNOW TO GET MY MIND TO SHUT UP!

Lets see if I can explain this well.

Think about a teter-toter (I have no idea how to spell plaground equipment). If you put a huge fat guy on one side and a midget on the other, you'll never get the teter-totter to move. You need to have a more equal distribution of weight on each side so the force needed out of each person to move when the weigh is equal, is much easier, you don't waste energy trying to move one side more than the other.

This is the idea, it's why cranks have journals on one side and a counter weight on the other. If there was no need for balance the counter weight wouldn't nee to be there, just a series of journals sticking out on each side. It a matter of equalizing the weight on each side so the are "balanced."

I hope that made some sense.

how much does it normally cost cuz i am gonna go for an all motor setup and i am trying to price everything out in my head

Usually starting price (at least around here) is $100, can go up depending how out of balance it is and how much they need to put into it.

I'm confused are you guys talking about just balencing the crank or the crank plus some other parts.

You need all the rotating parts to balance them together. You can give them a crank alone and say here balance it, they have nothign to balance it to.

All of the above. A complete block balance out here I've seen from 100-120 which includes crank to rods/pistons even flywheel and flexplate if you so desire. BTW the best to sdo would include your clutch
