I have this problem right now, and thanks to reading old posts...now I know how to fix it! From what I've read: The reverse switch can be cleaned with brake/carb cleaner and it will work again. Beats spending $50+ at the dealer. You need a 22mm deep socket on a long extension with a universal joint. Thanks to the members who previosly posted this info...now here's an old pic I found in my files to show anyone where the little bastard is!

Has any one replaced this part adn have the part number you used? I went to Advanced Auto Parts and they gave the part listed for my car, but when I went to change the part, it was completely different from what was in my car.

Thanks,
antgriff

All 95-99 maunal transmission cars have that switch, the picture is just at an odd angle.

They're about $25-$30 at my local autoparts stores. You just have to make sure it references as the same part as the Neon, Avenger 4cyl, and Sebring 4cyl, and NT Talon.

Yeah, and if replacing that does not fix it your tranny could be on it's way out. I replaced that sensor on my rebuilt trans, didn't work. The trans shop did a shit job and the thing died after ~6k miles. That was my first clue into the problem.

just outta curiosity there's no variation in sensors even on early 95's? i've had instances where certain parts i needed for my car were listed under 94's for some reason... its a PITA getting the right part sometimes

I know how you feel, I had to get a pvc vavle for a 96 cuz the one for the 95 wasn't near the same.

I got the sonic if you got the boom.

it's a completely different mechanism on auto i think... that's why you have that nice line of lights down the middle of your gauge cluster that tell you what gear you're in. the manual transmissions don't have a sensor for any gears besides reverse. and that sensor is there for the sole purpose of turning on the lights.
