66259, question on sounding of my exhaust.... Posted by 1996talon, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I have ordered an apexi n1 catback and it came with a bomz (sp?) hi flow cat. I havn't heard any complaints about the n1, but should I install the hi flow cat? i dont want my car to buzz like a bee, the deeper the sound, the better. I am getting a pacesetter header in a couple weeks. Will this hi flow cat affect the sound of my exhaust at all? Thanks.

It will make your car sound very raspy, even if you add a header. Don't do it unless you become turbo. Or on the otherhand, you can put it on, and add a larger resonator to quiet it down. But on a good side, if you add it on it will add horsepower, even with a larger resonator.

it will cut down on it quite a bit...
I have a "hi flo cat" (I use the quotations because it's really just a resonator with no catalyst) and I tried to combat the raspiness with a glasspack resonator. I got some weird looks at the muffler shop when I told them to weld it in there, but it has helped tremendously. No rasp whatsoever. Sounds great at WOT from 4000-6000 rpms ______________ Chris 96 ESI 5 spd Milwaukee, WI

it might be a good idea to check out the sound before you get the glasspack in there - if you like it without the glasspack it would be a waste to stick it in there
Now I'm really confusing you, i know, but I'm trying to save you some dough also
