how exactly is it that the smaller afx pully gives us 10 more hp?
can someone explain to me why is it that by swapping the pulley we see this increase in Hp. Service man at local Satan was arguing with me about it.

by slowing down the alternator/power steering you decrease the load on the engine, and by lightening up the pulley it takes the engine less power to turn the pulley, so what it really does is frees up power that was wasted turning the heavy stocker and spinning the alternator/power steering pump.

Wich in turn gives the alternator less current flow to your battery. I asked people with this mod if they have had problems with this mod, and only have heard of squeeky belts. Lots of people really like this mod and seem to get a nice boost in performance. I myself am still debating this mod.

i have know of people with 1000 amp systems that have no problems with alternator current, but they do say that since there is no harmonic balancer on the ud pulleys that you can have crankshaft balance/wobble problems, but mine has been on for 8 months and no problems not even a squeaky belt, its all in the installation, if you f&*%k up the install it will squeak and you will have problems.

That's the worry I've always had with underdrive pullies. The engineers at Chrysler/Mitsubishi decided on those gear ratios for a reason. The wieght of them is just a consequence of them being cheap. However I've never heard of anyone having any issues after installing an underdrive pully.

well I'm taking the car to satan tomorrow to get the timing belt changed and water pump (just not up to changing those myself. don't even know where the water pump is!)
and they said that they would replace any pulley that was worn for free, so I asked if they would just put in an aftermarket one in, and they said yes, but did not understand why I would want to do that.

balancer,dampener what ever..- that rubber o-ring seperating the powersteering/alternator pulleys.

No there is a difference between a balancer and daamper. We have a damper. Because of the weight in the stock pulley the rubber ring is there reducec any vibrations that might be transmited through the belts etc. The AFX is so light vibration isn't a problem and there is no need for a rubber ring.

A harmonic balancer is actually keyed to the crankshaft so it will only install one way. It is actually weighted to balance the crankshaft, where our crank is already balanced itself and there is no need for a harmonic balancer.

Now with that said to all who are debating... BUY THE PULLEY!!!!!! it's a great mod I have a over 500 watts RMS in my stereo and there is no problem with the laternator the voltage has never dropped below 12 volts.

water pump is not easy, it requires removing timing belt and all that.
