No you dont need to take off the crossmember....it is I think after or before the cross member....you just need to take off the downpipe....and of course dont forget to go ahead and replace the gasket but you knew that

The 420a Moroso oil pan for the neons will not fit a 2gnt ... it has clearance issues with the cross member.

Damn Thura... EASY with the double posts, mkay? LOL :+

Anyways, to add to what Thura said, forget about modifying the Crossmember as well. That's about as integral to the car/engine's structural integrity as anything since the fron of the tranny is actually mounted right to it.

Well... it can be done, but you have to be careful and be sure to brace the structure as you modify it.

With that said. Don't modify your crossmember for Moroso's Neon pan.

We rejected the first Moroso design, because it required a remote mount oil filter. We made some changes, and showed them what was up. Moroso is building a new prototype to send to us now. If it works look for them in a month (I hope)

Indy intake. On the back burner completely right now. They are trying to finish up some AMC RWD stuff and get it out of the way, but I will continue to push Scott and Russ. The Neon intake we helped design has been a success, so I think this one will too.

We have the prototype distributor for the 420A. We are doing testing with it now. This will allow the running Accel DFI with full fuel and spark control without any stock computer what so ever. 10K + RPM will not be a problem.

New forged cranks. Still in the works, many of you at the open house saw the prototype.

The A670 trans swap is a reality now. Finishing up some things on it. So the high HP guys will have a transmission that will live.

I will keep you informed as always.

Gary

These are DEFINITELY some new mods I look forward to! I definitely feel almost like I'm out of anything significant I want to add to my car. A new Moroso Oil Pan, distributor and tranny would be pretty cool!

Yea, the 670 swap has been done. It's quite a nice change to go from that slushy POS a604 paperweight, very minimal modifications to make it work, and the gains are very nice indeed

Whats the A670 tranny? And why is it better?

I'm so mad, I had a complete reply written up and my computer crashed and I lost it.

The a670 3spd has alot more aftermarket support for it then the 5spd mtx and the 4spd a604 atx. Being able to build the tranny alot stronger, be rid of the electronic tcm which controls the a604, LSD options, stall converters, it's the right way to build a transmission.

5spds have just been unable to lay down incredible amounts of power to this point, and that's where this trans comes into play. It's more gentle on the launch, can hook up far better with the LSD, stays in it's power band the entire time and the longer gears help spool a larger turbo with ease.

The a604 tranny would be able to do it as well, if the parts were made, but they're not, and it's a very fragile tranny (I've blown 3 before I swapped to the a670) The swap is actually easy too, probably about as difficult as going ATX to MTX

but hows your gas milage? daily driver or track only setup?
66150, RE: Projects we are working on for you guys with major manufacturers.
Posted by Glacius, Jan-08-04 04:44 PM
it's not too bad, I've never had good gas mileage since the turbo (way too heavy footed) and my car isn't really tuned in right with the 2.2 and what not yet (coming soon).

Daily driveability is fine, if you're not really hitting it, the stall doesn't raise too much just taking off as the torque load isn't great, I also wired the lockup to my OD button on the shifter, so when I hit the highways I can lock up the TC and get the same gas mileage as a 5spd compared to the atx searching gears and slipping everytime u change pedal pressure

We are working to bring some racing radiators to market for the 420A. That is a project I forgot to list. Dave from C&R has called me several times on the project including today, which reminded me.

Well C&R already has the specs. A member on here from columbus dsm sent them the specs and diff between the 4g63 model and 420a. I have the first ever c&R made for our cars.

Yes, not a problem. Intergral cooler will be an option.

the a670 could be for anybody. Since it's a mechanical tranny and not electronic like the a604, u could easily swap in the 3spd auto for the 5spd or the 3spd for the 4spd auto. Either way the 3spd is going to be the strongest, most resiliant drivetrain to lay down power
