65899, timing belt question

i just did a search on this, but didn't see what i needed specifically. i bought a timing belt, and was thinking about putting it on myself even though i knew it'd be a bitch. but it appears it'll be a bigger bitch than i thought. so if i already have the belt, and am ONLY replacing that, what kind of money will i be paying someone to put it on?

before you do anything, go buy the tensioners and pulleys. without changing them its not worth it to change the belt, cause the tensioners and pulleys can fail just as easily.

okay i have another question then. i don't have the money to put into the car really. or it may just be that i don't want to spend it on the car because im selling it. how can i check the belt and see if its okay to leave it alone for a while? i got somebody who wants to buy the car in about a week or two.

its all about the milage on the belt. if theres is 60k or more on the belt, change it.

It's almost impossible to check the condition of the belt without having it removed because you need to check the "ridges" for signs of wear and/or "cracks." You can manually turn the crank and try to peep through the timing belt cover in front of the cam gears, but the underside of the T-belt is still not that visible.

well it looks as though i'll be changing the belt tomorrow, as well as putting it in the shop in a day or two to have a transmission put in. had a synchronizer go out and its cheaper to just have a tranny put in. then next weekend i should be signing papers to sell it. sucks that i have to change this shit right before i get rid of it. also about 40 miles shy of an oil change. guess thats what happens when i'm anal about taking care of it.

let me know if you need help with the timing belt....i just did one and its fresh in my head... i dont think its completely neccesary to replace all the pulleys and tensioners....give them a good check,(ie: bearings, and compression on the tensioner)....my old talon had 135000 miles on it...timing belt skipped teeth and the head went..the automatic tensioner was shot....i could push it up and down with one hand....so it does happen
