I will lean towards a bad wire issue. A bad soldered connection to my AFC has caused my car lots of grief. If it isn't getting a decent MAP sensor reading in and out, it can vary slightly, either richening it or leaning out the mixture on accident. Make sure everything including the ground is wired/soldered the best possible. Especially with the dying.

When I had an S-AFC, I also experienced intermitten idle and acceleration problems. In my case, it turned that when my some of my connections were not soldered; coincidentally, after all the connections were soldered, the problem went away:shrug
