65807, HELP WITH PISTONS AND RODS PLEASE!
Posted by ECLIPSEDESE, Jan-04-04 08:08 PM
SINCE IT'S THE WINTER, IT'S BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARDS FOR ME. I'M NOT TRYING TO BE FAST,JUST TRYING TO HAVE A NICE DAILY DRIVER. I HAVE A 98 ECLIPSE RS. IT'S AN AUTOMATIC. I PRETTY MUCH HAVE THE BASIC UPGRADES ON IT. CAI,EXHAUST,CAM GEARS,HEADER,P/P,ECT. I'M ON A BUDGET B/C I'M GETTING MARRIED IN SEVEN MONTHS. I'VE BEEN LOOKING AT EAGLE RODS AND WISECO PISTONS(10.5:1).20 OVER,ARP HEAD STUDS.I ALSO HAVE A 75 SHOT OF NOS ON IT.I WANT TO GET WHAT WILL WORK THE BEST WITH MY NITROUS. I DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT BEING FAST OFF THE SPRAY B/C IT'S NOT AND WON'T BE.I CAN ADMIT THAT.I'M JUST WORRIED ABOUT THE 10.5:1 PISTONS RAISING MY C/R TOO HIGH AND DETONATING.MY BOY OWNS A SHOP(AJCUSTOMS.COM),SO I HAVE THE HOOK-UP ON PARTS BUT THE LABOR IS KILLING ME.ALSO,IF JUST THE BEARINGS ON THE RODS ARE BAD,DO I STILL NEED TO REPLACE THE RODS(BUDGET)?PLEASE HELP ME WITH ANY ADVICE POSSIBLE. THANKS!!

if you buddy owns a shop these questions should all be answered.

eagle rods and weisco pistons are a good cheap start, 10.5:1 is not too high of compresion..

you need bearings main and rod, need to ahve the crank ground or polished
the cylidners need bored and honed..

10.5:1 is a good Nitrous compression, jut set up your fuel right.

If you are trying to squeeze the budget, you could just do the pistons. Our stock rods should hold 10.5:1 with the nitrous. Of course the Eagle rods are better, that goes without saying.

You'll need to get the crank checked and possible polished or have the journals ground down, depends on the damage you did by spinning a bearing.

What I do recommend is build that trans. A higher stall torque converter, with Stratus final drive gears and a shift kit would help you out a lot.

yea, final drive mod, tranny cooler, free tranny mods.

youde probably feel more kick off that than the rebuild.

Stay away from the Wiseco, the JE's are better. We have had issues with the Wisecos in the past and they would not address them. JE on the other hand is very customer responsive. And the scary thing is JE and Wiseco are owned by the same company.

10.5 will run fine on 93 octane fuel even with an AFX computer. If you want to the best go with a long rod 10.5 engine, and run the Crane 16 cams. That is an excellent street setup.
