I am looking for a good exhaust for my car. I wouldn't mind something performance wise, but I don't want a loud exhaust. When I bought my car it had a muffler welded in that is very loud, and I don't like the sound of it at all. I think it is a 3A muffler or something like that. I also have an exhaust leak somewhere around the front of the car. I am guessing it is the flex pipe. Can someone let me know what is the quietest catback around? I may just go with a stock system or a GST setup. I can handle all the little vibrations and rattles around the car anymore while driving on the highway.

What are your plans performance wise for the car? Free flowing exhaust are going to be louder. Letting the cra breath better will increase the sound. A GS-T muffle on yoru stock piping would be pretty quiet. You could get a custom 2 1/4" set up pick a muffler and make sure you you get some good resonators to help quiet it down.

thermals wasn't really loud on my buddys 3rd gen. and its not bad on one of my other friends si. theres a chart in the back of some of the turner mags with a greddy ad give db specs a bunch of the popular brands, maybe check out some backs issues of whatever u have layin around.

It depends what your goals are with the car. If you plan to stay n/a, then a stock gs-t muffler is probably your best bet--good performance and cheap. If you want to go with an aftermarke system, then a system like a Pacesetter (Nopi catalog) is stock diameter and it shouldn't be loud at all.

Which system is louder, Borla or Magnaflow? My roommate has a Borla on his 99 GS. It sounds nice, but is still a little loud for my tastes right now. I don't mind a loud exhaust, but I have to do alot of highway driving right now. Once my car is only a toy and not my everyday transportation, which will be in about a year. I graduate in May, and then hopefully I can find a Mechanical Engineering job. After I get another car, I plan on putting a turbo on it. Until then I need something a little more tame. I am seriously considering a GST system, and also a header. I have a leak in my flex pipe, and I think it will end up being cheaper getting a SS header and downpipe off of ebay. Any thoughts?

I would hold off, or just put a GS-T muffler on right now. When you go turbo you are going to want a bigger diameter pipe that flows well. And then the turbo quiets things down a bit, so I would say get a GS-T muffler for the moment.

Of the two Borla is probably a touch quieter. I like both companies a lot. Good quality and sound from both.

A header is a nioce way to fix you leaking flex and get you some more power.

Is the GS-T exhaust same diameter as the GS? Will it bolt right up to my stock cat? I was also considering replacing the cat, what is a good replacement unit? I don't really want to eliminate the cat, but I wouldn't be completely against it.

Has anyone had any experience with the stainless header and downpipes on ebay? They are usualy 4-1's and look nice. How is the fitment and performance?

Yes a rear section from a GS-T will bolt right up, both have 2" piping.

We are waiting on brackets before we release our direct fit high flow cats.

I have a hooker header which is a nice design except for the use of a portion of the stock downpipe. The header piping is nice and a god collector, just the use of the stock downpipe doesn't flow as well. The OBX's are nice from what I've seen, and fairly prices on e-bay.
