I got me engine apart and i have The UNorth crank pulley, Fidanza flywheel, crank, eagle rods, JE pistons, and aem cam gears. Which of these do i take to get balanced at a machine shop?

Only thing really needed is crnak rods and pistons. UDP isn't keyed to the crank, so there's nothing to balance to.

might as well have the flywheel balanced by itself fidanzas have been known to be far off.

True. Been awhile since I wrenched on a 420a. :D I would mark and balance the flywheel though. Even a lightened one is a lot of weight hanging off the back of the crank.

what do they do when they balance it....do you take the whole engine, or do they balance them seperately?

for the crank they sping the crank ona computerized machine and it will stop and say take off so much weight here..

for pistons and rods they weigh them all and match them to the lightest set.

on v8's its much different with bob weights and such.

they only balance the crank rods pistons flywheel and UDp's depending on the motor.

is it really necessary though? skrilla (josiah) told me he didnt get his motor balanced as well as a few other guys and the motors were fine

Absolutely necessary? no. But I would never build an engine, especially for performance that isn't balanced. If you are doing a stock rebuild you may get lucky. Puting in forged pistins and rods etc, weights of the new materials are different. To smooth out the engine and extend the life of the motor, I definately, highly, recommend a balanced engine.
