6571, Break-in Period? How long.... Posted by wakebord99, Nov-07-01 11:45 AM
Just got my car back today, i'm runnin really light for a while, and with no boost. I just got my engine rebuilt with the specs listed below. My mechanic, surgested around a 2000 mile break in period w/out boost, and low rpm driving. Before i give it some gas. Let me know what you all have done, or think i should do.

Everyone around me I have always heard 500 mile breakin period, and keeping it below 2500k or 3k rpms.

I would go longer than 500 miles. I went 500 miles with my stock rebuild and I have MAJOR blowby. I get oil dripping from my air filter. I would break it in at LEAST 1000 miles.

Yes, I'd say 500 miles at least. And be easy on her for those 500 miles, you'll regret it if you don't. Sounds like your gonna need some injectors on that list and an AFC if your gonna run that kinda boost(12-18psi). Anyways, good luck with the break in! It will be time to unleash the beast soon!!

Start car up first time, warm it up before driving, and then change the oil. This should get out any random particles that would have introduced themselves during the buildup.
Run the car around for a a few 100 miles, change oil.
Drive the car for 1000k miles change oil.
I would recommend at least three oil changes in the first 1000miles looking for any possible foreign particles and keeping out of boost. I figure run the revs up to about 5k but keep it out of boost or any serious boost. Use standard oil and then swap to synthetic after that and the rest of the life of the car. This is not neccesarily the perfect method as everyone has their own ideas on how to do but it worked for me.

Yeah I would run at least a 1000mi break in. Run 10W-30 first 1000 change oil at 500 and at 1000 switch back to 5W30. first 1000 try to stay low throttle and as little boost as possible. and then take it easy up to first oil change at 3000.

i'm 99.9% sure the rings weren't fully seated yet and they heated up from the friction and broke. i got enourmous blow-by but i was driving to my parents house for the weekend and couldn't tell. well it shot ALL the oil outta my engine and the engine cut off. i looked under the hood, saw the mess and went up the road for some oil. came back put oil in, turned it over...well let's say it sounded like the pistons heated, expanded and got stuck to the cylinder walls and when i turned the key the rods just ripped outta the pistons. matter of fact that's what happened to the RS, #1 piston got stuck in the cylinder and popped the rod off.
