65660, another header question...
Posted by ajcfalcon, Jan-02-04 09:16 AM
im about to order some headers out of a summit catalog, and they have 2 different ones for the eclipse. when i searched, i read a bunch of good an bad things about the pace setter header, but i read nothing about "Airmass" headers. they both use the 4-2-1 design, which i was told is better than the 4 into 1 design.
pace setters = $155.99
Airmass = 199.95
now, i have never heard of Airmass, but maybe someone else has. im just wondering what the experts think so i can order these things.
thanks guys for any help

Adam

I say you just go with the Pacesetter. A header does little for ultimate power in our cars. It is a useful supporting mod, but to make the most of it, you will need a complete exhaust and free flowing intake (such as extrude honed intke mani). For the difference in price, you can get the Pacesetters cermic coated to make them more efficient and cooler looking imo.

go with pasesetter theyre not bad headers ull just have to modify them a tad and the paint on mine burnt off as soon as i started the car so if u want them to look cool then i suggest painting them with high temp paint:thumbsup

pacesetter is crap IMO. i helped a friend install one on a 70's triumph TR6 and I had to shave soo much off the intake manifold to get it to fit it was pathetic. as soon as the motor was cranked the pretty black paint peeled and curled up. i recommend anything other than pacesetter. i have greddy and the fitment was perfect and it looks cool IMO. you get what you pay for. i suggest you buy BMPDirk's greddy header.

i have a 2.5inch catback exhaust, and a cold air intake, and a few other small things. i just figured, since its already pretty much free flow from both ends, if i put some headers in it well help even more. i noticed power differences from both of those modifications, and i was sort of hoping i would see the same thing with the headers... am i wrong? if they arent going to help any i would rather save my money for a body kit and a paint job.
any help will be appreciated.
thanks

I would still pop for the header (notice the singular tense there sir) anyways. If you don't want the Pacesetter, check the FSBO forum and check out BMPdirk's header for sale, however I still think the Pacesetter is a god deal. My intake manifold required no modifications at all. :P It came of run4cvr's car and went right on mine. There were no installation issues at all and even if you did have to shave something here or there, wouldn't you put a little elobiw grease into something to save $50? I know I would! A header will modify your power band though. As I'm sure you've read before, a 4-1 will move the power band higher, while a 4-2-1 will net you a broader torque curve. The only reason why I think you wouldn't want a new header would be if you plan on going turbo in the near future.

im buying a obx 4-1

the 4-2-1 is supposed to help the low-mid power... but lets not forget you have a 2gnt... so with no juice, no boost, & stock internals... you will not have any low end, no matter what :-p

im just gonna try to get all the power in the upper rpms.. which is where you spend most of a race anyway.

well, what do you guys suggest then? 4-1 or 4-2-1? i think im just going to stick with the pace setters header. everyone said they are pretty good except that you have to shave it a little to get it to fit which i no big deal. but my question is.... is 4-1 better than 4-2-1?

I prefer a 4-1 design myself.
