65434, Compression Test gone Bad Posted by flamineclipse, Dec-29-03 12:47 PM
Well I did a compression test this evening and I'm really dissapointed with the results. Heres what I got.
#1: 180 #2: 175 #3: 150 #4: 180
As I am planning on buying Collente's NX set up I was hoping for at least 200 on each cylinder. But it looks like I should look at replacing my rings at least. So what I need to know is who can give me the best price on forged internals. I'd like to stay near the stock compression as I plan on boosting in the future anyway. Also can somebody give me a price that they paid for a rebuild. I will do the work myself I just need a price for the parts.
Thanks,
Chris

I agree. If those compressions numbers are correct, then cyl #3 is definitely low; 180 is OK, but a little low, since my 8.8:1 pistons register 180 psi. WWW.HowellAutomotive.com has good prices on a rebuild package.

Yeah, I let it warm up to the normal operating temp.

Did you do a leakdown on it? Put a little oil in each cylinder and try again. If the numbers go up it's rings. If they stay the same, you've got some headwork to do. I'd rather mess with the head than pull the pistons out again. :O

I gonna do the leak down tonight. I thought about the oil in the cylinders too. I hope it works out. I also happened to think today that my head gasket is leaking at the corner (imagine that ) and that propably has something to do with it as well.

It could be worse man. You could've just done a 10.5:1 rebuild in July and be pulling compression numbers like those. I need to do a leakdown myself. I am praying the head is shot. That would redeem my engine building abilities imo.
/me crosses fingers...

Damn, I hope it's your head too. That blows man. Good luck and thanks for the help.
