I recently took my motor out of my car and decided to rebuild it cause i wasnt happy with the speed of my eclipse. I have a 98GS with a 420a motor. When i started i was going to make my car like everyone elses with a turbo. Then after looking everywhere online decided against it. I will eventually want to turbocharge my car but it wasnt my imedate goal. I wanted to keep it NA and fast. But now that i have purchased all the parts and am currently waiting for my motor to get back, which it will be in about 2 weeks, i daily go over what i think that HP will be. What i want to know is what everyone else thinks. So im gonna list all the parts that i can remember, theres always some i leave out on accident, and if anyone can give me an estimate that would be great.

Complete engine rebuild (berings, seals, balance, blueprint, ect)
.020 over with JE Pistons 8.8:1
eagle rods
resurfaced crank

prolly like. 120 whp. lowering compresion. adding all that shit. prolly equals out to a stock 9.6 compression. and btw, good luck removing our balance shafts. i hear thier really hard to find.

Id think that since your lowering compression its gunna cancel out everything, get the turbo, or raise the compression up, with eagle rods and je pistons you could prob run much higher compression.

get rid of the header and get a turbo kit That will bring you up to 230 or 250 whp. Because those JE 8.8:1 pistons will be great for that. or send them back and get some 10.6:1 JE's. I like the NA

Did anyone read his "Mod list"

Either you really didn't buy all these parts or you don't know you wasted money. My 1st guess is because our motors don't have balance shafts so picking up an shaft eliminator kit was a waste of money, BTW where did you pick up this mysterious kit, and what "stage 2" clutch did you pick up. There are at least three on the market as I type, the SPEC CM or CFDF. Anyway with your "mod list" I'd say 125WHP at best so about 10 more that stock. The 8.8CR will effectively throw away about just over 3HP plus the loss in rotational mass from the mysterious shaft eliminator and further loss of compression from your port and polish. So I'd say maybe 130-135 with the inclusion of the UDP, high flow cat, and headers, but I couldn't be sure on that because I see no fuel electronics for trimming out the pig rich engine we run.

Balance shaft eliminator?? uuhhhh, nah, ill leave that one alone. and with lower compression your car will be slower than it was stock. you will never make power without the turbo, especially with lower compression.

I did purchase the balance shaft kit but i got an email from the company that i bought it from telling me it wasnt for my motor. On their site it didnt specify what motor just said 95-99, so that was one of the questions that i had with the purchase. So im not getting that. For all the people saying im only gonna have 120is hp i dont understand how that is going to work out. Before i started this project i did a baseline dyno and it had 120 hp stock with cat back exhaust. With the compression ratio being as low as it is i was told that the differnce between the hp on my exact setup versus one with 10:1 is only 10hp at best. And eventually i would like to get a turbo but i want to buy an expensive one with a fat innercooler. If i wanted to go with nitrous, my buddy is a dealer for nitrous express and would give me any kit at cost. Oh and by the way he wants to get rid of the N-Ter-Cooler Kits and i think he is only asking 280-300 for them if anyone one wants any. Now some one talked about the air to fuel mixture being all messed up. I have been reading a little about the controllers but i havent decided on which one i was going to get. Any suggestions? I seem to be leaning more towards APEXi S-AFC II. And for the clutch im going with the spec stage 2 clutch.
One thing no one touched on that i still am curious about is do they make an aftermarket intake manifold for the 420a engines?

Nope. Sorry. Port the stocker and i'd get a larger TB. Lowering your compression is a big NO-NO(w/o forced induction..)if you want to have a fast NA car. However, since you eventually want to boost your car, I suggest you go ahead and get a Stage 1 from HRC or STAR and begin learning. Fast NA 4 cylinder cars are hard to come by IMO.

Oh yea, there are some custom built intakes on ebay, dunno if theyre for the 4g63 engine *think thats right* or the 420a though, check it out.

because i don't want it to run rich at idle. The pcm can;t handle anything bigger than 24lb/hr. the stock one's are 19lb/hr so i think a 5 lb/hr jump is good enough.

venom fuel rail :thumbsdown Just throw a nitrous kit on there and everything will be ok.
