yah people blow their built engines But it takes a lot more to blow a built one than to blow a stock one.

how did they go about doing it? did the people who blew them have a turbo w/ no EGT gauge or what? too much boost on shitty pump gas? just wondering.

someone here did with a 200 (i think?) shot of n20. yellow eclipse, ended up with a bad 4 cylinder if my memory serves me correct.

Dave_FL messed up his built engine because of a lot of correction in an AFC.

Anything can blow up if you tune like a drunken monkey. built motor just resist the heat and it takes more to break stuff, but it's still possible.

Broke a JE piston with Totalseal rings:


Damage was probably caused by overheating from a headgasket leak & rings compressing into the cylinder walls.
Engine was assembled by a drunken monkey.

etx cracked a forged piston. i think. sumit about no fuel. i dunno

Of course it will handle more heat! Our cars don't really start to make power until about 5000 degrees or so.

You've got to be kidding me. First off Bill was kidding about the whole 5000* thing. 2nd, if you don't think there is a point between having a stock and a built motor turn up the boost and see what happens. :rolleyes

EDIT: Search for mototool's first post about Pistons. It should explain why ... but I still can't believe you asked that question.

I Know of course that a built engine can handle more boost.
and last longer under boost.
but I was just asking for some more technical info about why it can support more boost other then stronger piston, ring, rods...etc?

you go forged because we have pussy ring lands, that like to crack when you get any sort of detonation. forged can take detonation to a certain extent, and they are cool. cause i say so. i am god}(

I destroyed a JE. I was crusing around, boosted, detonated. Next day I find out my alternator wen't bad and that caused my fuel pump to flow less, so my motor didn't get enough gas. Now my apexi tt is always set to the voltage monitor so I can keep my eye on it.

That motor was shitty anyways, I love my new motor.

No. Not to repeat what the others have stated, but a built engine will not handle higher temps than 1600-1650 deg. F. Forged pistons and rods are stronger, so they will handle a lot horsepower. However, detonation and extreme heat will still damage expensive pistons. We still need to tune for correct air/fuel ratios and egt's. Sure, there are probably race cars that run pretty high egt's, but the engines are torn apart for a rebuilt after 2-3 runs.
