i've been rollin around with a guttin cat, but i had to go in for emissions so i put my good cat on. i drove around with it for like 3 weeks. after i had put back my gutted cat, damn the car sure spools a lot faster. what a difference it makes!!!

yep. im pretty sure a TEST PIPE would work even better due to the straight through design. :cheers

is it worth gutting the cat or putting a test pipe on a NA eclipse?

i hat e being in missouri damm emmission testing every year ,im coming around again in may need a cat ,wonder if a highflow cat would be enough to pass ? any suggestions ,currently i have headers with a staight pipe all the way to the muffler

High flow cats are50 state legal, shouldn't be a problem unless yoru car wouldn't pass in the first place.

NA I would replace the cat with a resonator to avoid any buzzing or droning. Turbo, straight pipe, the turbo itself does a good job of quieting exhaust.

If your car passes emissions EASILY with a cat on, it just may pass without the actualy catalyst in place.... Cat. Converters HELP a car with emissions, they dont just cancel out everything.. If you have low emissions already you might get high emissions after, but just enough to pass.

Wrong my friend :nono(at least in Cal/nv...and everywhere else federal emissions testing is done)

Look under your hood...there is a sticker that sates the emissions equipment you should have....egr, cat, (if its 3way/2 way/ w. or without air injection), smog pump, and inlet restrictor... and other emission system vacum hoses routing...meaning if you REMOOVE anny item from that chart the smog inspector will FAIL you (if he if half competent...the dmv sends cars lacking cats,without egr and stuff like that to see if you are doing your job..at least here in L.V.) on the spot even though your car does pass the gas analisis or OBDII test if its 96+

So to pass smog you are REQUIRED to have all your emissions equipment...sad huh

BTW Check engine on will fail you in my county on the spot if you are 96+ (thank god im 95 =P cant get rid of my CEL from egr solenoid...shhhh):thumbsup

How i know this?? Im a smogger bwahahaha...so gutted cat might get you past most inspectors...if they use a pyrometer like me...you might not be so lucky if they start suspecting its been tampered with and are paranoid with the hiden dmv testers (i know i am...its a freaking huge fine each time we mess up an inspection :shrug )

BTW i just finished my 3" high flow cat sys. leme tell yah...its awesome looking..., one continuous pipe ... my exhaust guy is awesome....cant wait to hook it up (300 dollars for it including all parts...of course i did the pipe bending a lil to get that price, yes it includes a very high flow 3" cat converter fyi)...

Annyways :cheers ...if you half competent with pipe making/soldering..you should be able to make a remoovable testpipe to insert when you go racing, then replace with cat when (depending on how law abiding you are :) )}(
