64717, timing??
Posted by lancelot628, Dec-14-03 05:10 PM
O.k i did the head gasket on my car and now the timing seems to be off. We had to take the cam gears and cams off to do the job, but we thought it all lined back up again. Now the car doesn't start it just makes like a poping noise like it's miss fireing. How can i ajust the timing. I was told the computer does it automaticaly.??? i don't know what it is
just e-mail me at lancelot628@excite.com if anything

If it's popping, that's probably a backfire either through the exhaust or intake. Your timing is most likely off. When you put the timing belt back on, use a straight edge like a ruler to line up the timing marks on the cam with the center of the bolt heads. The timing marks for the cams should both be towards the center beside each other. Once you have those and the crank lined up, and tension back on the belt, rotate the crank around twice by hand, and check everything again to see that it's lined up. Also check to make sure you plugged everything back up. Once you get the timing back on, and everything is plugged up, check the compression. If it's extremely low or none, then you probably bent some valves. If the timing is off enough when you crank it, you will get piston-valve contact, and they will bend.

i would move it to performance, i thought that's what i put it in. I don't know how to move it. To fix the timing would i have to take the motor out? cuz everything is like covered. I have a 96 RS.
