well i found a neon engine from my local junkyard....its out of a 2000 neon and only has 22,000 miles on it....i can get the whole engine for 300...but i think i can talk him down to 200....im pretty sure i can use this without a problem, but just wanted to double check.... is there any value in the sohc head? anything i need to know? thanks

is it still the 420a block? if so, being as its sohc it might have a higher CR to make up for the topend. this could be pretty cool if it was true, and you could slap on a 420A DOHC head. let us know, i htink i'll research this. :cheers

i dont care about the compression ratio...it is the 420a, im planning on building it up for turbo....

according to an old post by gary howell, we can use the 2000+block, and it is actually 7-8lbs lighter. call howell automotive just to make sure

It doesn't specifically mention the 2000 SOHC but it has all the casting numbers and things to look for. Should be all you need to know when junkyard hunting.

Yes afaik, the 2000 Neon SOHC is the exact same block, same casting number, etc. as our DOHC 420a. I doubt it's lighter though. :wary

$200 for a shortblock is reasonable if it's already pulled for you and has a good crank. I'd hold out for something cheaper if they insist on $300. No value at all in the SOHC head IMO except maybe raping it for sensors.

well i think 200 is a damn good deal for the whole complete engine....it only has 22000 miles on it and runs fine.... im actually thinking of rebuilding mine and keeping this one as the spare...but thanks for the info on it...

It is go for it and sell what you don't need. If you have the Sensors than you're realy set for bang for buck

The block is the same, but has the front PVC boss removed, which the 420A version never used anyway. This makes the block 4 pounds lighter than yours. Some of the crate motors we sell to people out of here are those blocks. Same block. Only the pistons are different.

so the crank and bedplate are all the same? this would be ok to do a turbo rebuild? thanks
