64540, 420A Turbo??
Posted by enrico_dsm, Dec-10-03 07:48 PM
Hey i just came across this site in good time.
Now I own a 95 talon esi and am looking into a turbo
Ive herd mixed things for this such as guys turboing these cars then blowing them faster then they can imagine. Ive also herd guys who have done it with no probs. But really how much boost can this engine withstand stock? if any? If i do end up turboing will i need bigger rods and pistons? would i need a whole performance upgrade to do so? I realize you guys are the guys to ask! Of course things like a bigger fuel pump and injectors are needed and may even come with kits?
My other option tho is to purchse a 3000gt vr4....
Let me know what you think
thanks

stock you can run a stage 2 system from here http://www.turbosystem.com/
7-8 lbs of boost is all on a stock motor
now upgrade the pistons, injectors, and rods thats a different story

just start reading this board, there is TONS of info on how to turbo safely with these cars.

Yes, not to sound harsh, but look over in the "things weve seen before" section. Also Use the search and read the turbo section.

These blocks can take boost quite nicely, I dont want to lead you on there are consequences if you dont know what you are doing. Maintain everything and keep it safe like 7psi and you should be set. If you want to run in the 10psi plus range then build the internals.

Some of us like myself get lucky and can run 9psi for 40k miles on the stock block.

Other blow in minuets. Do a compression check and make sure everything is sound. If somethings is wrong the turbo will make things worse.

A 3000GT-VR4 is infinitely easier to turn into a fast turbo car than a nonturbo eclipse. :7

...about the VR-4 I am a FIRM HATER. The car is portly, suspenion is sub par (Macpherson struts up front multi link in the rear) a fuckin coat hanger for what is supposed to be a rear sway bar, I could go on but, in terms of "sports car", sorry but that it is not, more like a GT (if that). The only thing that makes it fast is the 3 liters of V6 power and the twins hanging from it (these are no small matters and I'd give my left nut for 3L under my talon with twins with less than 3K pounds), BUT two and half liters, 1 turbo and just over 1000lbs less weight with a superior suspension are far better...IMHO

^ Agreed. The vr-4 is a nice car, but pound for pound I'll take a 2g anyday.

Josiah, if you really want a 3.0L with a turbo head out to IL. :P

I like the 300GT, especially since it proves there are cars that are gheavier than ours! And it's not exactly like our rear swap bar is huge, oh wait I don't have one!!!

I dont know if I actually have a point here, day has been long and I want to leave work!

IOh yeah as long as you tune properly there are o problems turboing these cars.

Sorry guys, but coming from someone who has driven a turbo DSM, a non-turbo DSM, and a 350-375 (soon to be 650+) horsepower VR4, I would have to say that I would take the VR4 in a heartbeat. Between the looks that I get when I'm driving my roomate's 3S, the power, and the fun factor, it would be in your best interest to purchase that car. True, it is a heavy car and I could outhandle John's VR4 with my Eclipse, the sheer potential of that car is basically second to only the 2JZ-GTE Toyota Supra. The VR4 is a Japanese supercar.

super car it is, but they tried making it the best at everything and like someone said before, they ended up with not only a BEAST, but a fat PIG of a beast.

IF the VR-4 is in good shape Id take it in a heart beat, its just so nice. Also take into account their parts are for the most part, double ours.

In the end though, if you can get one. Then do so.

Well seeing how our dsm's hand handle turbo I just might do that.
Where i plan to start with it is a full body kit and eclipse conversion...cmonn who doesnt love the eclipse backend opposed to the talon? Ive already got the rims, then lowering springs and some kind of nice spolier.... also i might shave a few things like the door handles. then once spring comes around mabye the hahn racecraft stage 1? seeing how the stage 2 only comes with an intercooler being the diff i can get a huge front mount here for 500 canadian at a place here in the city. Theyl even give me chrome piping custom bent!

as of now this is my plan.:thumbsup

:thumbsdown

:P

I personally love the Talon rear end. Especially the way in flows with the front on 97+. But you have a 95 so... I'm a firm believer in Talon Represent w00t!! You don't see as many on the road so I think that sets our cars apart more then anything. But if you want altezza's go ahead with the conversion.:rolleyes LOL But it's your car...do as you wish...this is just my $0.02.

Black Tops foreva!!

I too am a Talon fan. I've actually thought about doing an Eclipse -> Talon conversion on my car just because. I can get the parts cheap. The only bad thing is, It would probably be cheaper to get my whole car painted than it would to get the pieces matched properly. I'm blessed with one of those wonderful colors no one can match. Oslo Green Pearl ownz.

but u guys gota think....i live in winnipeg canada and we just got a mitsubishi dealer herea month ago! so all u see is talons... There is a few eclipses ( 95-99) in the city because ppl imported them from the states, but you see more of the new ones. so thats why i wana convert it and get the stock eclipse tails.
