64381, Help!! My car is going Wacko!!
Posted by gs turbo, Dec-09-03 01:56 AM
Yesterday, my car decided to just start stalling on me at stop lights. I got a cel for running rich (52). I have 30 lb injectors and just a regular vortech fmu. I've had this setup since sept. and nothing has happened until yesterday. What's happening is that when I'm driving or stopped at a stoplight, the car will hiccup or stutter or it seems like it misfires. What's weird though, is that it is doing it on a schedule. Every 2 minutes on the dot, this happens, no matter if I'm on the highway or if I'm at a stoplight. If I'm stopped, my car will stall. I changed my spark plugs and that didn't work. I have no idea what the problem is. Can anyone help me. Thanks, Sam

Hmmm... this sounds kind of familiar. Check your codes again and make sure you are not pulling an o2 code. That might cause your idle problems. Does your car stay running if you keep pushing on the gas?

I checked the codes and I'm throwin a 32 and 43. The 32 is because i have my egr unhooked. Should I hook that up again. I've had that off since sept. too, and the cel has been on since then. When I hit the gas when I'm idling, yeah, the car stays on.....but what's weird is that this is happening every two minutes on the dot no matter if I'm going 80 on the highway or idling at the stop light. What also happens is that when it starts to sputter is that my cruise control light comes on, as well as my emergency brake light and battery and oil light. So could it be something electrical as well? Car runs fine other than that. Any other ideas?

I forgot to mention that I'm also throwing code 52.

Hmm... could definately be something electrical. I remember now, I was getting the multiple random missfire code too. My ignition was dying. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it would not. Could be your ignition. Is it the stock ignition? It could be your map sensor going out too. I am pretty sure it not because of the EGR. What are your mods?

By any chance do you have a turbotimer set to 2 minutes?

Shit, I didn't even think of that. That would do it. If you installed it incorrectly. It would mess with you. Good idea dawg.

Yeah, I do have a turbo timer, but I've had that for over a year now. But I'll definately check that out. It makes a lot of sense, because it is set at 2 minutes. I have the star stage 2 kit on my car, missing link, 30 lb injectors, and just a bunch of other misc. stuff. I'll shut the turbo timer off and see what happens. Thanks for the help guys.

Well, I checked the turbo timer and it was actually set at 3 minutes. I turned it off anyways and I still have the problem. I don't think it's actually electrical anymore, because it's strange that it cycles every two minutes. If it was electrical, it would probably happen if I hit a bump or something. I do have a stock ignition. Any other clues guys. Thanks.

i can't explain the 2 min thing but with my car, the positive battery terminal was my problem. the battery was fine and my connection at the terminal was fine but about 2 or 3 inches done on the wire was the issue. the wire rusted and that was causing the car to cut in and out and makin all the lights on the dash come on before it would cut out completely. its just somehting else to check out. long shot imo but worth takin a looking

You said you were throwing a code 43 right? that a coil pack malfunction code.if the coil pack is going bad, it isnt firing the spark plug efficiently, which doesnt ignite all the fuel in the chamber correctly. That fuel getting to your O2 sensor could be causing your code 52(rich code). id almost guarantee its the coil pack, O2 sensor, or both. goodluck.

It seemed like ignition problems. Check nd see if anyone on here is selling there stock coil pack. Real easy to install try using that.

If its exactly 2 minutes like you say it might be a bad turbo timer, the 2 minutes could be a default or something in the TT.

Unhook it totally if you can.

If its not that then yes its either o2 or coil pack.
But the 2 minute thing is funny thats why Im leaning towards messed up TT
