6434, CAM2 Gas? WTF
Posted by neovb, Nov-06-01 01:48 PM
Okay I was getting some gas at a local Texaco. One of the choices on the pump was some CAM2 Racing Fuel. Advertised as 100 Octane at a mere 4.99 a gallon. I figure this fuel cant be only for racing because then it would not be sold at the pump. But im afraid to try it because I dont want to destroy my engine or the cat converter. Has anyone tried this type of fuel or know what its about? Thanks.

100 octane is good to use if you want to run a 100 shot or boost to 15lbs on stock internals or some crazy shit like that!

i think the ecu can tell if you use a higher grade/octane gas, but for n/a it doesnt do shit. i used to fil er up with da premium, but when i heard it didnt do anything cuz im n/a, i stopped wastin money, i suggest you do the same unless your turbo or sqeezin

do not use premium unless you are turbo.. that high octane is not good for the n/a cars not boosting or sprayin.. you can use the high octane to clean out your injectors ever so often.. like 2 times a year.. but There is no reason to use premium gas in our cars unless you are turbo'd or spraying

More importantly, Cam2 is LEADED gas. Run it for any length of time and say goodbye to your o2 sensors. Smells good tho ;-)

Actually, the LOWER octane you can run (without detonation) the BETTER!

Less octane means that the fuel burns faster.
The only reason big turbo people run extremely high octane is to prevent/lessen detonation. i.e. if 110 octane is doing it's job, using 116 will only slow you down... (turbo/NOS example).

Knock and detonation can be measured - sort of... That is the catch, if you can't measure better be safe than sorry!

run 93 octane. don't run that 87 bull S!@#. if you run 87 you get more carbon build up. 93 is cleaner burning and less carbon build up. it not the octane rating that makes the fuel burn fast it's how much of a lead foot we all have.

No guy is right. Higher octane gas burns slower. If you ever want to burn something using gas, use a lower octane because it's a much bigger more violent flame.

i read an article in the recent copy of either motortrend or car and driver, i'm not quite sure, where they test different octane ratings in different cars and then dyno them. it was quite interesting to see what kind of HP they gained or lost. check it out if you can.

Yes higher octane burns slower so if yoiu have some form of timing control, Ignition box or ITC, run as high an octane as you can and advance the timing. Our ECU won't do it for us.
