i was thinking of getting cam gears but never realy hear anybody adjusting their exhaust cam only the intake ,,so the question realy is can i install only one cam gear leaving everthing (timing )in good tune or i need the set and pay an additional 100 bucks ,so basically i want run stock exhaust cam gear and adjustable intake cam gear without changing anything ,plus i know i can change one without removing the belt

i think that will not work based on the fact that the adjustables are going to be a different diameter than the factory gears, that will mess it up from the getgo.

the cam gears are the exact same diameter as the stockers. I have upgraded to the fidanza's( I did both gears) I see no reason why you cant just do one if that's what you want to do.

^^ Agreed. The adjustables are the exact same diameter as the stockers. If you never plan to adjust the exhaust gear then I don't see any reason why you couldnt replace only the intake. Unless you like them to match for aesthetic reasons...

And explain to me how you can change just one gear without removing the belt? that doesnt make any sense to me. You would still need to retime everything...

i would think that as long as you would keep tension on the whole timeing belt is it not possible to simple slide the intake gear out then slide the new adjustable back into the same place ,i mean you never move the crank plus you never move the cam either ,,why wouldn't it be posibble,,,,???

arent aftermarket cam gears lightened though?...i would think that would throw off timing if you only had one lightened gear and one heavy stock gear.

I don't see any reason why the timing would be off because they weigh different amounts. But I would say the findoza's are affordable to just do both. And can I say why would you not adj. the exhaust cam? Say you advance the intake 2deg and retard exhaust 2deg wouldnt this give it more vacumm and burn time?

You don't want to adjust the exhaust cam because the cam sensor is located on the exhaust cam and that can cause the ECU to think funny.

Yes, having just one gear will be perfectly fine. Some have dynoed their gears, and if you are turbo, the exhaust cam adjustment sometimes doesnt do that much, so an intake only will be fine. IMO, from what i have seen, adjustable cam gears, money wise, really are not worth it. I have yet to see any gains over 10 HP using them. But if you want to squeeze out every last HP from the motor, then by all means..And I highly doubt you will be able to change the cam gear without at *least* loosening the tensioner. Depending on what crank pulley you have, you may have to pull that off to get access to the tensioner pluger bolts. Once you loosen those 2 bolts, the tension on the belt is released, and then you can take off the gear. You will then have to possibly reset your timing marks and all that, and re-tension the belt. If your timing belt covers are off and not using them, its really not that much work to get at the timing belt and componets...9 times out of 10, trying to take a shortcut, leads you to spend even more time than if you had not...

If you are going to install them, I would install both. I have AEM cam gears with a ported/milled head but the difference in power on different settings is not that great. What you mainly feel is the movement of the power band (more power in the low or top end).

cant you just loosen the adjustment bolts and turn the cam instead of the gear??? that way you dont need to loosen tension.

again I dont have gears but I thought thats how they were supposed to work anyways
