63783, unorthodox u/d pulley - do you have squealing problems Posted by ez, Nov-27-03 06:17 PM
Hey guys, I'm close to doing my 60K maintenace. just scored some sweet unorthodox cam gears for a good price, and I was thinking what the hell get a u/d pulley too. after an exhaustive 2gnt search LOL it seems AFX u/d pulleys are notorious for squealing/throwing belts, but offer more power over the unorthodox. what about the unorthodox? I'd really prefer the unorthodox over the afx.

You have to re-tighten your belts once they break in (about 1 week), else you will squeel.
If your throwing belts/squeeling and your belts have less than a 1/2" of flex in the longest strech then your pulley isn't all the way on the crank.
It's easy to install if you use the trick of putting it in the oven at 450 for *3hrs* then *very quickly* run it to the car and slide it right over the crank.

Just go with gatorback belts.

hmm, so I probably have to do the same thing on my car... got an AFX. I just figured the aluminum pulley was that wee bit smaller from contraction in cold weather...

if you have alot of squeel problems try scuffing up the back side of the belts
the UR pulley is a much nicer install then the afx.
get the alternator only 48% underdriven UR pulley its the greatest

i have shredded two gatorback belts in the past 3 days. :thumbsdown i still say they are good belts though, there is a reason they are shredding, i just have to figure out what it is.

The reason your probably shredding belts is that your UDP isn't all the way on.

It's the best bang for the buck! The most power too :thumbsup.
Unorthodox is a good brand, quality construction, but it's not underdrove (a word?) as much, and it's mooore expensive.
