After doing much searching and checking with HadesOmega it seems that the problem that I have with my ride involves the lifters or rocker arms. I have pulled up and printed the info on the 2 screwdriver trick. I cannot find a write up on the removal of the valve cover though. Please point me in the right direction for this info......Thank You.

Its pretty straight foward. Just take the bolts out and it comes off:shrug

- twist and pull the spark plug wires out
- take the harness off the coil, unbolt and remove it (keep the wires attached so you know which cylinder they go to)
- remove hoses/ground wire
- unbolt the cover

Pretty straight forward.

Okay guys.....thanks for the help....it was pretty straight-forward.
Now....as far as doing the two screwdriver trick, do the lobes on the cams need to be rotated to relieve some tension for every set of rockers/lifters?

What is the proper way of going about this?

Sorry I didn't say everything I needed to! I found this while searching last night:

"give the engine a quick tap of the starter to turn it so you can do the rest"

My guess is I just put the key in and crank it without letting it start.....I wanted to make sure though!

Allright........sorry to waste space on the board!

Common sense kicked in and realized that I could just leave the car in gear and push it to move the lobes where I needed them!

I have all the lifter and rockers out now and it does appear that the some of the lifters are wore out. So now I need to find a store either in Vero Beach or Okeechobee that has what I need in stock.

All I need for reassembly is:

VC Gasket kit(does that come with new spark plug gaskets?)
and new lifters. Right?

I would put the pt rockers and lifters in but I gotta call around to see if I can afford them. I have about 200 bucks to work with and not enough time to order this stuff online(I gotta be back in Georgia by Monday for class.)

Any input would be greatly appreciated on this project. Thanks again 2gnt board!!!!!!

Or, just use a socket wrench on the crank pulley bolt, its easy to get at right under the access cover at the passenger tire well, you cant miss it. If you take out your spark plugs,you can easily turn the crank, which will turn the cams. Much easier than bumping the starter or whichever...

Okay.
My new PT lifters came in this morning from Howell. I got all those put in and everything put back together and I still have a very loud knocking noise that comes from the top of the engine.

We had a mechanic who we know come out and look/listen to it. He doesn't think it's a spun bearing or a bad wrist pin.

The sound is as if something was getting kicked around inside the head under the valve cover.

I don't know what to think and it's going to cost about 100.00 buck just to get my care towed to town to start with.

Any ideas....should I just bite the bullet and get a new block(which I see as an opportunity for a built block) or should I have this thing checked out for something that could be head related.

Well, I have found out that the problem with the car is more serious. It's going to cost to much to fix so...........I'm going to have to get another car. I'm looking into my options right now, I still owe money on the car so I may just part it out. I'll let the board know which I am going to do. Keep an eye out in the sale forum for my stuff from my car or if someone wants to buy it as a whole.
