Whats up guys, Ive been away from the board for a while and I was wondering if crane cams are availible yet for the 420A.

I finally got the motor out of my car and I plan on building it slightly. Had to pull it sooner then I wanted cause of a rear seal leak.

Oh, I want to prepare the motor for turbo this spring, so im going to get forged rods and pistons.

Any suggestions on what kind of rods and pistons and do i have to lower the compression?

Crane Cams still do not fit our 420A. They fit the Neon just fine, and if you want to go through the trouble of indexing the cams, you can install them... I do not! I want to drop in and go!

I am trying to work with Crower to get us cams that fit. I need to talk to them again and sort out some details. If I can get a projected release date I'll let you know.

Howell Automotive has rebuild kits for $1100 that would be great for you. Low compression JE pistons (8.6:1) Eagle Rods gasket set etc. Everythign you'll need. Unless you are planning on running insane levels of boost and running extremely high HP number the Eagle rods will be great. Unless you want to go to HRC Stage 4 or 5 Eagle rods should hold the power.

Cool, Ill check that rebuild kit out. I was gonna go with Eagle rods, but i wanted to check with the "PROS" first.

When the thread on crane cams began a while back, I thought they were supposed to "drop right in"?

Are there any other cams out there right now that would? I know Gude requires shims of some sort?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hell yeah,

Just checked out the kit and that is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Its great that it comes with the oil pump and rear main. My rear main is leaking, thats why I pulled the motor in the first place.

One more question...

If I was to go with the 12.5 high compression pistons, what kind of numbers would I be looking at for HP. I have a short ram intake, performance muffler and will also have an UDP for sure. Header is optional, it depends on if I go turbo or not, but an all motor car would be cool too.

Thanks

what HP are the eagle rods rated for.... and what kinda boost can you run with that bottom end kit... also wouldn't the 8.5.1 be better than the 8.6.1 that's in the kit since i will be going turbo...

A .1 CR is rally no big deal either way.

The Eagle Rods should easily hold 400hp probably 450-500+ so unless you are really going to go wild they will do.

get the Gude cams they drop right in and you go. As far as the pistons go. Get JE 8:0:1 or 8:5:1 pistons and rods they can with stand up to 500+ horse power. Because the weakest thing in the 420 A motor is the connecting rods. They Suck!!! You can also get a lightened and knife edged crank from Forward Motion(302)658-2829, and the also have forged componets from 8:0:1 to 15:0:1 comp pistons and rod sets also.

Are the gudes REGRINDS? We are talking about BILLET cams made for the car. You more power with a billet cam compared to a reground stock cam. If they are regrinds, of course they drop right in, they are stock cams that have been changed.
