Well folks. here i am again. I love my 99 eclipse to death. IM in the military and i dont have much money to upgrade it. I have a WIFE; and 2 kids.. so not much money left over. Id like to know if anyone knows any quick, easy and cheap ways to get a little more out of my engine. I have the 2.0 liter 4 cyl. Im planning on a CAI later on after i save up some money. Ive seen people make homemade intakes for their 2gn's. I was just wondering if there were any other "home made" mods for the engine that actually work. Any ideas? reply or email me!:thumbsup

just get a CAI or short ram off ebay imo. or you could go get some alluminum pipes from somewhere and mandrel bend the crapola out of them and make a CAI :thumbsup

most basic mods are cheaper then the headache of trying to home brew them imo.

There is a link on the main page showing the basic mods you can do yourself. Also a staged upgrade list which can help you out a lot.

Some of the most common:

hack the airbox - drill a bunch of holes in the intake side of your airbox for more flow. Will lower the tone of your exhaust some too. K&N drop in runs about $45, but breathes better.

adjust the throttle plate - use the two bolts holding the cable to the intake mani and have the pedal floored. Adjust the cable so that the butterfly is open all the way (flat horizontally).

clutch restrictor mod - haven't done this one myself, but pretty common

you can buy the mandrel bends from JC Whitney to make your own custom cat back for <$100. 2.5" ID for NA, 3.0" ID for the turbo kit.

if you get a cheap universal muffler, you may want to pick up a cherry bomb from AutoZone for maybe $30 to quiet the raspiness they tend to have. install it inline

Check the Sale/Wanted forum here and on the DSM Trader for used parts. These can be your best friend.

Most fun for the money imo is the AFX UDP. Runs $140 new, but you can find them for less around. Puts more power to the ground and very popular.

There is also a tab in the Throttle body you can grind out to get a more snappier response, Make some ground wires, and also motormount inserts.

I forgot about the TB porting! That definitely made a difference imo. If you have a Dremel, you're halfway there man. Just grind out the hump right before the butterfly. (When you get into it, you'll see.) Then get a 120grit flapwheel sanding bit and smooth it all out nice. Follow up with some pollish and you've got a spiffy looking TB that you can still send out to be ported/polished professionally someday if you wanted to.

And as for the ground wire kit. Uber and I are working on those. $30 each in the next couple weeks. :thumbsup

you can remove your cat and bust the ceramics out of it too....it will give your car that raspy sound so you should definatly get the glass pack to put after the cat.
