Finally got my engine done today, rebuilt by me and Dougie on the board. My car was down for a lil over 2 months, Im so happy to have it back, but my idle is horrible. The car wont stay idle by itself. We just moved the cable adjuster over to keep it at 1200rpms. We think its my IAC, it was pretty black in there, we tried to take off the sensor but the diamn bolt broke inside TB so we didnt even try the other bolt, so we didnt take it out. Doug put my TB on his GS and it wouldnt idle either. So anyone wanna take a gues?

Haha sound like my idle. it is really deep and sounds like a V8. really rough like i have killer cams. i cant figure it out either.

i had same problem after hg job. check all ur vacuum lines. my egr tube had a slight leak do to old gasket.

Idle Air Controller (IAC for those that don't know)

IAC for sure... you need to drill the head off the bolt that wont come out... then once the IAC is off you should be able to grad the thread thats left with some vice grips...

If you need an IAC I have one...

Make sure you have a pretty stout drill bit to drill that thing out with! I broke oneon one of those bolts. :P If you're lucky, you broke the one that you can drill all the way through to the other side with. Then you can just grab a simple bolt at Home Depot that goes all the way through and put a nut on the beeotch.

Also, don't forget to check your vac lines. The small ones on the back of the intake mani can be a PITA when it comes to getting the car to idle right. And then the one that goes from the top of the TB arouns back over behind the timing belt next to the fender. Ugh. Vac lines...

Man, another problem just discovered after moving my car over night a big oil spot on the ground. I lost a crap load of oil. I had to put in 2 qts. Its dripping straight down from my tranny, I dont kno where its coming from, its hard to follow the trail of oil to its source. Im thinking it may be from my oil pressure sender. I dont know...I hope it aint the rear main seal. I dont kno... ;(

That's probably rear main seal man! The big black rubber one you have to tap in. If you put it in too far, it can leak on you. Sounds like its time to drop the tranny again sir. :(

Don't feel bad. We forgot the o-ring in the bedplate when we did mine and got the same sort of thing man. It is teh sux0rs, but you have to do it.

Why don't you try unbolting the IAC first before you start drilling or cutting a stuff up.

*edit* If you didn't use teflon tape or paste on the thread of your oil sending unit, that could be you leak. Take a look and see where it's coming from beforeyou yank the tranny.

Yea I bet its the rear main seal...damn...we used teflon tape on the sender...its not leaking there...man this sucks..have to drop the tranny.

when i did my HG i had to replace a valve and it didnt seat right, car idled like shit and it even threw a cel. that would be my guess if you tinkered with the head at all.

Congrats on your rebuild.. Hell, I didn't even know that you were rebuilding. But GOOD JOB! how was it?

Engine sounds so smooth, I put on a new Apex N1 3" exhaust and the low 8.8 JE pistons...sounds nice...i thought it would be all air and sound like sumone yawning lol, but its a nice deep tone. Everything went real smooth...except thses probs.

OK i see oil seeping right between the block and the tranny...I dont think it is coming from a higher place, i wrapped my autometer oil pressure sender in napkins and had my car running, the napkin was dry....would this definatly confirm it being the rear main seal?

Also I used arp head studs and a new mopar head gasket, torqued it down to arp specs, so it shouldnt be my head right...I didnt use that copper spray that ive been reading in post tho.

I lost 2 qts of oil overnight...

Nope, the engine should seal within a couple minutes at operating temperature.

Replace the rear main... no big deal... it happens.

i just did my hg, and have the same problem also, but 2qts over night is quicky heavy. im thinking its my rear main seal too. is there a way to check to make sure that its 100% sure that its the Rear main seal? and how hard is the job? i just did my own hg job with a lil help from turbo8u, let me know if i can handle something like this.

this may sound a lil retarded but try checking the tps if it seems like the idle is so bad that the car shakes violently. i did my rebuilt this past summer. the rebuilt took 2 days but the car was in the shop for almost a month trying to decipher why my idle was like shit. after two heads and a bunch of timing tuning, someone mentioned that it might be the tps since he experienced the same thing in a neon. guess what? it was the tps. give that a try.

Remove your lower cover plate...if you can..its on the bottom of the tranny facing the oil pan(3 bolts I believe). If its full of oil, or oil pours out..then you'll know...I think this can lead to clutch problems if oil gets in there...anyone?

my clutch has like 300 miles on it and it does slip in high rpms from 2-3rd and 3rd to 4th. that might be it huh?

if oil is leaking onto you tranny.. and causing the clutch to slip.. its most likely is the rear main seal. my clutch is toast now b/c it is covered in oil. my bet for both of you guys is a leaky rear main.

also.. about the bad idle.. have you made sure that you timing is correct? it could be off a couple teeth.. that will cause shitty idles
