Yes, but it's better to get it bored out. You can't be as precise with sand paper or dremel. But getting rid of the hump will help throttle responce and flow. But going to a bored 55mm would be better, and easier.

its pretty simple.....and you dont have to make a new throttle plate either. on the pipe side, the TB starts to funnel via the hump, remove that and youll have the same diamater straight through. i removed mine and got a small gain in throttle response...well worth it imo.

I used a Dremel on mine and it took me some serious time, but I think it was worth it. Don't you risk an odd idle by doing it by hand since the airflow will be changed (since it's not perfectly round?).

go to a junkyard and buy a throttle body of an Neon with an automatic transmission those ones have 52mm tb no hump inisde they are $20-25

you take it apart and rebuilt yours with the Neon
the only difference between a neon TB and a 420a tb is the shape of black plastic bracket where the TB cable is connecting

Hey guys, not to spoil anyones fun but: I was reading somewhere about this throttle body that was tapered on purpose. As in, that little hump was there for a reason = to increase flow and velocity of the air.

Both ways sound correct, taking it out seems like it'd allow more space for air to flow through. But having that taper there bottle necks it but increases velocity.

So which is more imporatant, velocity or amount?

It's done like that for normal people driveability so the throttle isn't as responsive. Removing that and or going to a bored TB, the throttle responce is better, which most people dont' want, or wouldn't know how to drive.

Yes putting it on without a gasket or not tight, or the sensors not plugged in, etc. Can cause a vacuum leak, vacuum leaks equal crappy idle.

if u need a new stock TB, hit me up. and you shoudlve reused the stock gasket (unless u werent careful and broke it...:nono ). the increased idle is probably due to a leak which is why u get the CELs. let me know if u want the TB. goodluck.
